Twice in one period – California

I’m taking the exams in California. If I don’t pass this year I will have to go back to college to qualify under next years requirements. So I basically have yet to pass REG and BEC.

If I apply twice and pay my $50 twice, can I take the same exam in one testing period? For me this would be regulation in the first week of July and if I don’t make it then again at the end of August? I also want to take BEC at the end of August and if I don’t pass once or twice in October/November. If I can take it at least twice in October/November that would easy my pain.

Any advise would be more than welcome! Thank you and good luck!

    >>For me this would be regulation in the first week of July and if I don't make it then again at the end of August?<<

No, you can take each exam only once per quarter (or window).

You can take two (or more) different exams in the same window but can't take the same one twice in a window.

It's a stupid rule, I know, as is the expiration of the exam credit. Best of luck to you.

Lola: Regarding the change in requirements, in IL the requirements change only affects NEW applicants for the CPA Exam not those already taking the exams. For example, since I am currently taking the exam, new requirements/changes do not pertain to me. Does CA not “Grandfather” you in under the requirements that were in force when you became eligible to sit for the exam?

Like other have said – you can only take each part once per window.

And it looks like you will NOT be grandfathered in if you do not meet all the current requirements for either path by December 31. Here is an excerpt from the CA CPA page:

“If I pass all or part of the Uniform CPA Examination before January 1, 2014, will I be grandfathered into the existing requirements?

No. In order to be licensed under the current pathways you must pass the Uniform CPA Exam, complete all requirements for licensure, including the education and experience requirements, and apply for your CPA license by December 31, 2013.

If I apply for the Uniform CPA Examination now and do not pass the exam before January 1, 2014, will I be required to meet the new 150 hour requirement to continue sitting for the exam?

You will not be required to meet the new educational requirements to continue to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam. You will be required to document completion of the new requirements at the time you apply for your CPA license.”

So unless you have already met all the requirements for one of the current paths including the experience, it doesn't much matter. Good luck!

    I am finally DONE!

I agree with IwannaBaCPA about the no-grandfathering in anymore. The way I understand this is, you must be *completely* done with all the requirements – passed all 4 sections, passed ethics, and I think fulfilled your experience requirement also, and also have send in your completed license application – all by the end of 2013.

If all of this is not done then you are stuck with the new education requirements in California.

A colleague and I are in the same boat – we need to pass all the exams and complete the entire licensing process before the end of 2013. I personally don't want to go back to school again. So this is it for me – if I don't complete everything this year, I'm done with this ride.

Yes, I'm in California, trying to get through all 4 parts by 11/30… Or else. I have heard that there is legislation to allow you to be licensed as long as you've passed the exams, maybe you can have more time to do Ethics?? And get your paperwork filed. I feel like this might be a long shot for me… But I'm going to try. Otherwise I think I need like 15 more units, yuck!!!

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

While it's true that the CA requirements change on 1/1/2014, it's also true that there's pending legislation (SB 823). It passed the state senate and was recently amended in the state assembly. It looks fairly promising right now. The bill would allow those who have passed all 4 sections of the exam by 12/31/2013 to finish the licensing requirements (Ethics exam, experience) within TWO years!

If you have a vested interest, call your assembly rep! You can also obsessively track the bill here:

So lets say this legislation doesn't go through… Does anyone know if it is possible to get the ethics exam and experience paperwork, licensing application done by 12/31 if you take your last exam 11/30 (and pass)? Or will we be waiting on scores to get the next steps completed? I have the experience, I'd just need to get it signed off and take the Ethics exam. It does sound promising so I'm counting on the legislation passing.

Also, if the worst case scenario and we end up having to get to the 150 units, how long would we have to get those, like is it 1.5 years before your scores expire?
