Hello everybody,
I passed the last part of the CPA exam in June 2014. Then I completed the 4 ethics hours and the Texas Professional Conduct exam.
Yesterday I finally received the so-long-waiter-for postcard with an invitation to show up on the stage in Austin on December 6th to be handed my CPA certificate and make my oath. I am so excited and I can’t wait to get there and send a picture to my mom and pop! Texas only issues CPA certificates twice a year, in June and December.
A couple of months ago I called the Texas AICPA and they told me I cannot use the designation “CPA” until I will have my certificate on hand even though I am already showing in the state database as a certified CPA.
Is there anybody else here waiting to receive his/her Texas certificate as well? I can’t wait to put those three letters next to my name everywhere!
Another question I wanted to ask is if anybody else has my same experience in the social life. I am a tax accountant with a Master of Science in Taxation, currently working for a regional CPA firm. As soon as I go out to the bars or restaurants or just when I meet new people, as soon as I say “I do taxes and besides that I am also going to be certified as a CPA soon” everybody starts opening their heart and telling me a lot of personal financial problems and asking all kinds of financial questions… I wonder if that is how people get new business over time! Or do you just give free help to new friends?
Take care and have a good evening!
