    If you apply for, sit, pass the exam, and get your work experience entirely in one state, can you apply for your actual license in a different state? I get the concept of reciprocity after you get your license & work for a while, but what if you want to move in the middle of it all?

    Information on the interwebz is about as clear as mud.

    I'm taking the exam as a TN candidate and VA says i just have to ask the TN board to send them my scores once I pass all four parts. I don't know about experience though since my experience will be in VA.

    I think the best thing for you to do is to contact the state you are planning to get licensed in. They will have the definitive answer.

    Thanks, Kricket. I'm really just looking around, nationally. I'm in a bit of a job funk right now, so I'm not sure where I want to go – if I want to go. But you're right. I suppose each state would treat it differently, so it's moot at this point!

    Thanks, Kricket. I'm really just looking around, nationally. I'm in a bit of a job funk right now, so I'm not sure where I want to go – if I want to go. But you're right. I suppose each state would treat it differently, so it's moot at this point!

    I am applying in California and taking the exam in TX and IA and my experience will be in CA and TX. 🙂 I have a complicated situation, but I think the only requirement of have experience in another state is to justify and verify with the CPA board in that state that the experience is real.
