So, I just wanted to put this out there just in case there are others in my shoes…I’ve applied for my CPA License in the state of PA in early July and earlier this week I received a follow up email requesting additional explanation on company letterhead about my work experience including any work examples I wanted to attached along with the letter.
My experience is all in industry and I don’t have any background in public accounting. I read the CPA law in the state and it is very vague as far as what counts as non public accounting experience such as, “Qualifying work experience includes providing any type of service or advice involving the use of Accounting, Attest, Compilation, Consulting, Financial Advisory, Management Advisory & Tax”. It goes on to say, “All experience must be of a caliber satisfactory to the State Board of Accountancy and verified by an individual who is currently licensed to practice as a CPA in Pennsylvania or another jurisdiction.”. This is very vague language and you can interpret this a hundred ways.
I wrote them a letter back explaining the nature of my position as an Accountant/Financial Analyst and waiting to hear back from the state board. Has anybody had any issues or experience with getting turned down because of similar non public accounting work experience?
