Sitting for the exam in Washington DC – where do I sign up? And a few other Q's

    Hi everyone,

I feel foolish asking this, but I have spent the past few hours searching through the DC Board of Accountancy website (https://www.pearsonvue.com/dc/accountancy/) and https://nasba.org/, and I am unable to figure out how exactly I register to take the exam as well as how to submit my transcripts for evaluation.

Past attempts of contacting someone at the DC Board of Accountancy have been fruitless (as with any city government inquiry in DC).

If someone here has gone through this process, could you give some guidance when you have a free minute?

    Thanks in advance.

I haven't gone through it there, but it looks to me like you go to the DC BOA website (the Pearson Vue one), and on the right under Licensing, you click on Application Instructions. That seems to have all of the information about the exam and transcripts in the first few pages.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Thanks for the quick response, Kimboroni. I looked over the application instructions you mentioned, and I see where it should be sent to, I don't see where the application actually is nor where I can find it. From the research I did earlier today, it also appears there is now an electronic way to submit the application, but there is no reference to it on the DC website.

Have you tried going here: https://www.pulseportal.com/ I think this may be where you submit your application.

    FAR - 99 (5/14)
    AUD - 89 (8/14)
    REG - 93 (4/15)
    BEC - 5/18/15

That is one of the less transparent BOA websites I've seen (I help with licensing from time to time at work). Usually there will be a nice step by step page for each kind of application with all of the links and everything you need to know for that kind in one place.

They appear to have paper forms available, but their website also says that paper forms will be returned. So what WanderingAcct posted looks like the online application portal to me also.

But this link may also help as you work on that: https://www.pearsonvue.com/dc/accountancy/pdf/DC%20OPLA%20PULSE%20Guide%20-%20Submit%20a%20License.pdf

Here is the exam scheduling form: https://www.asisvcs.com/publications/pdf/680919.pdf

The last page of the Application Instructions PDF we discussed before has a nice matrix of everything you need to provide to them for scheduling the exam.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)

@WanderingAcct – thanks for the link. From what I can tell, this link would be used to submit an application for a CPA license after one has passed the exam.

@Kimboroni – you truly live up to that ninja avatar. Looks like https://www.asisvcs.com/publications/pdf/680919.pdf is the actual application I was looking for. Now I can combine it with the detailed instructions at https://www.asisvcs.com/publications/pdf/670990.pdf and hopefully it should give me everything I need. How in the world did you find that link?

Thank you both for your time and willingness to help. I hope this post will be useful to others who are brave enough to deal with DC bureaucracy in order to test here. From what I've read online, the board of Accountancy here never picks up, never calls back, and never replies. If there's anyone here who went through this process in DC, I'd love to hear any suggestions.

    Thanks!

    Alex

I'm glad I could help! Although I believe you have to do both the application and the exam scheduling form, even if on first glance the application doesn't seem to apply.

I found the exam scheduling form by going to the main Pearson Vue page, then in the bottom left corner there is a box with Publications and Forms, and the bottom link in that is Other Publications and Forms. There may be other helpful documents linked there if you find that you're missing something else.
