Residency requirement?

Just read that you don’t have to be a resident of some state boards to be licensed in that state. Does anybody know if this is correct? I am registered and taking the test in WV but recently moved to another state. I would like to continue taking test and getting licensed in WV, foregoing application fees and hassle of another state. Anybody know if I can do this in WV while living out of state?

Research and the search function can answer a lot of your questions.

“You will be allowed to take the examination at any one of the authorized Prometric test centers in the U.S., and

designated international locations, whether or not the test center is located within the borders of the jurisdiction

where you are seeking your initial license.”

Thanks DPAD, I tried the search tool and could not find the answer to my question. I understand that I can take the test at any prometric location, regardless of state board. My question is, can I be a resident in North Carolina and get licensed thru another state, i.e. WV.

Not familiar with WV, but many states allow you to apply as an out-of-state licensee, as long as you meet all the requirements to be licensed/to practice in that state (such as education requirements) and keep up with state-specific CPE requirements. I am licensed in CA, HI, NJ, and NY (out-of-state in three of those states).

However, in my situation, I was licensed initially in my resident state, then applied to all the other states afterwards.

msd. It doesn't matter your residency. Many people are licensed as a Colorado CPA while living elsewhere because they do not require experience.

Some states do require that you are a resident and others do not. Your best bet is to call the WV Board and get the answer directly from them.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.
