I’ve passed the 4 sections and the ethics exam. By reading on the TN BOA website, they send a “welcome packet” once they receive confirmation of the candidate completing the CPA and ethics exam. I guess the “welcome packet” contains the application for license.

So my question is for TN CPA’s. How long does it take to receive the “welcome packet” after you pass and how long does it take the BOA to approve the license? Thanks.n

No package for me either. I called today and was told they have it – they just have not put the pieces together to mail out. Also I do have our audit firm (partner) reviewing the experience affidavit. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Hey guys – great news. The audit partner of our CPA audit firm signed off on my affidavit. I sent it to the State (TN) yesterday. I also called because I still have not received my welcome package and was told they had all the information, but need to “put it together” for mailing. In addition, I asked how long it would take for us to receive our license number and I was told Exec Dir will be out for the next couple of weeks due to some minor surgery. I was told it “typically” takes 2 to 4 weeks to get the applications processed. So unfortunately, we may be looking at 4 to 6 weeks.

I must say that while this type of waiting is difficult – it is nothing like waiting on a score!

@CPL- what kind of affidavit did you have? I haven't passed all parts yet, but I'm curious about the certification process since I too am in TN. Do all the forms not come in the welcome packet or did you just type up some type of work confirmation and had the audit CPA sign to verify your work history? The reason I am asking is that at my company there is no CPA. However, on the side I do some extra work for a CPA firm and thought one of them would sign my work experience. I was wondering if it was a standard form or something you create yourself? Thanks!

@Acowntint – They have the affidavit for experience on the state board of accountancy's website, but its also included on your application for licensure they send you once the state board has received the passing scores for both the CPA exam and the ethics exam.

After you pass everything just wait for the state board to mail you the application and everything is own there that you need to fill out.

I just found out that there are 26 applications in process as the license numbers in process range from 21080 – 22006. I wouldn't think that it would be too much longer if your name shows up on the website. It would have been sweet if I got license number 22000, but I missed it by a few.

You can do a license search from the following site:

I check everyday, hopefully soon it will say fully licensed for both of us. I can't wait to be able to put CPA at the end of my name.

Yes, me too. It's been a few weeks now since I submitted the app. Hopefully by the beginning of March we'll get the letters.

I am wondering how thing worked out for you guys? I am in TN also and I am trying to jump start the process by contacting the state board directly to get the application paperwork.

I am still waiting on 2 exam scores from this window but I am pretty sure I passed.

    BEC - 11/28/10 - 83
    REG - 02/19/11 - 94
    AUD - 04/01/11 - 97
    FAR - 05/09/11 - 88

How old is this post? It is showing 5 hrs every time I look at it, but I feel like it could be a year old. My app has been in process with State of TN for two full weeks. My license number is on verify.gov but says unapproved applicant. It has said that for two weeks. Anyone have an update??? BTW I posted this 10/17/2012
