Question about Indiana CPA Experience?

    Hello!

I am currently studying for the CPA exam and am wondering about the experience part. I am working as an accounting clerk for a small company. I primarily do AR and AP as well as some other duties. We have an outside CPA who closes the end of the year, does our fixed assets, and handles our taxes. Do you think this position would count towards my experience for my CPA provided our outside CPA is willing to verify my experience? I am in Indiana and the code seems vague to me.

    Thanks for your help!

    Seems clear it will work:

You should work it out with the licensed CPA now to create a verifiable plan to follow that allows him/her to evaluate your work so a credible assertion of your experience can be made. Schedule regular meetings to discuss your workload. You should tell your employer you are doing this.

I did something similar for mine in MT. I used the Oregon list of KSAs that they require to draft a standard list of my responsibilities- I work in tax. My employer reviewed and notarized a statement affirming I had done the work described for the hours listed in the statement. My licensed CPA and I were in touch consistently through my year of experience and he was then able to discuss any questions with me and my non-CPA supervisor. He then completed the experience verification form and all the documentation was submitted with my application and I was approved.

Contact your board and confirm. MT and NASBA were very responsive to my questions. Email so you have everything in writing. The board won’t guarantee it will work in advance but they should provide guidance on what they need to see for documentation.
