Just out of curiosity, why? Seems to me like the audit hours requirement is a GOOD thing.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

@mla1169 I agree that it is good for all CPAs to have the experience, but not for a professional who is only going to be a tax accountant or cannot achieve audit hours without a CPA (catch 22). It's not like we will all be hired as partners for audit firms, we will have to work our way up and gain experience, but it is extremely hard for some of us to get audit hours without audit experience (cyclical).

I agree that NOT requiring audit hours is a good thing…for the tax accountants etc.

You know its funny, technically I could do tax I suppose even though I have NO experience in it at all, so I guess I do see where its irrelevant to many cpa's.

Actuallly its almost scary that I could run out tomorrow and start doing peoples taxes, if I chose to………

I was lucky enough to meet the audit hour requirement but I know a lot of people that do not have it and cannot get it. They are anxiously awaiting the passage of this bill. One of the partners in my office had to fill out the form and he complained that the form was harder for him than passing the CPA exam…I think he was kidding but it was still very complex.

I agree, I think the audit requirement should be optional and that the work experience requirement should also include tax and consulting professionals. For ex. Maryland has a 2000-hour work experience requirement, but you can have tax-, consulting-, audit-, OR assurance-related experience, etc.

if anyone is still following: it's going before the senate professional licensure committtee tomorrow, May 8th

and the chair of that committee is the one that got it held up in the senate before, so hopefully they've ironed out all the issues w/ him & his staff

    (comments section)

“The bill did pass out of the Professional Licensure Committee in the Senate. It now has to go to Appropriations Committee and then be on the Senate calendar for three days. The Senate will be recessed after next week for a couple of weeks and will be back in session in early June. We expect the bill will pass then. You should wait to file your application until the bill passes an you have your completed experience forms ready to go. Gov. Corbett will sign the bill within a few weeks of it’s passage, hence the end of June prediction.”

This is great timing for me! If I can pass all 4 sections within the next year then I can get the license in PA without attestation experience. Yay! I was actually researching other state's statute to apply there and transfer the CPA license back to PA but this would solve all of my issues.

This is awesome!!! Just last night I spent almost 2 hours searching NASBA and the PA state board website to see if I needed attestation hours as a transfer license from GA… that would make my life between now and September significantly less stressful.
