PA experience question

Hey guys, wondering if anyone can help me on this. I’ve asked numerous people at work and no one seems to know the answer. I can’t find the answer online and thought I’d ask here before calling my state board.

For PA, the experience requirement is 1 year with 400 hours of attestation work. I started full time on June 1, 2012 at my accounting firm. I am hopefully taking my last exam this Saturday. If I do pass and apply in March, will I have covered my experience requirement by June 1, 2013? Or does the experience requirement start after passing the exam/applying?

Copy & paste below: Depending on when you graduated, you have 5 years or 10 years from the time you apply to get your experience in.

Q: What are the requirements to get licensed if I graduated before Dec. 31, 2011 and passed at least one part of the CPA Exam?

A: To earn a CPA license in Pennsylvania, candidates must have passed all four parts of the CPA Exam and fulfill both the education and experience requirements.

Education – Candidates must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree or higher, and have at least 24 semester credits in accounting subjects. These subjects include accounting and auditing, business law, finance, or tax subjects sanctioned by the Pennsylvania State Board of Accountancy. Total credit hours must equal at least 120.

Experience – Candidates must complete two years (3,200 hours) of work experience, with 800 of those hours involving attest activity. All experience must be supervised by an individual who is currently licensed to practice public accounting as a CPA in Pennsylvania or another state. Work experience must be completed within 120 months of the application for certification. <

Yes, I read that already. Is the date of application from when you applied to sit for the exam? Or when you pass the exam and apply for the license? That's what I am not clear on

I believe the clock starts when you apply for the license, not for the exam itself. So basically you'd want the experience taken care of before applying for the license.

    https://www.pacode.com/secure/data/049/chapter11/s11.55.html

    (4) A candidate who initially sat for the CPA examination after January 1, 2000, shall have acquired the qualifying experience required under paragraphs (1)—(3) within 120 months preceding the date of application for CPA certification. A candidate who initially sat for the CPA examination before January 1, 2000, is not subject to any time limitation regarding the acquisition of qualifying experience.

if you already have the experience requirement by the time you pass all 4 sections, you are good to go. if you don't have it yet, you have 5 years to get it

Gsnyder. I think the 5 year time limit means your experience needs to have been completed in the 60 months before you apply for the license. Not 60 months after you pas the test. Son experience from 6 or more years ago does not count

    FAR - 11/29/2012(75)
    BEC - 11/27/2012(73) - 2/11/2013(79)
    AUD - 04/08/2013(82)
    REG - 05/28/2013(86) - Done

@bebst15, did you ever find out the answer to your questions? I am wondering the same thing. I thought that the experience starting counting after you finished the 150 credits needed to get your license? But I might be wrong on that…

    FAR: 65, 77!
    AUD: 72, 72, 80!
    REG: 64, 84!
    BEC: 83!
    Ethics: 98!
