Out-of-state CPA Worth it?

I’m living in Texas, graduating with my Accounting BBA in May. I am looking into a lot of different jobs, but I know my resume would look 100x better if I had my CPA. In Texas the requirement is 150 hours (which I do not have); but I know this requirement does not exist in other states. Would an out-of-state CPA license really help me in my job search, or would they just see it as “that license is worthless in this state” and move on??

You are right! Your resume would look much better with a CPA license.

A lot of us first take the exams (in whatever State they are allowed to sit for the exam) and after that worry about getting licensed in the State you start working or find a job.

You can choose a State with lower requirements and sit for the exams (you can take the exam in Texas but sit for New Hampshire for instance). For some candidates it takes more than a year anyway to pass all 4 parts. In the meantime you can figure out if you want to stay in Texas and if yes, you can start a graduate program to earn the missing credits. Maybe your future employer/company is even willing to (partly) pay for the additional credits if it was important for them to get you licensed.

But first of all take the exams (for a State you have sufficient credits), you can always transfer them to Texas later if you fulfil the requirements.
