It used to be about 3 months. Anyone know if that’s changed? Thanks!

I am grandfathered in under the 120 hour rule. I was told my application with sent to the Board on 3/26 and that it was in the “Bureau of Comparative Education” as of two days ago. Does anyone have any experience with that? I was told it's standard and that every application goes through it, regardless of which route to application you go (ie 120 v 150 etc). Any insight is appreciated! Thanks to all and congrats to all 🙂

I have never heard the term “Bureau of Comparative Education” before but I would not worry about it.
I did not send in my application by August 1, 2009 so I ended up using the 15 year pathway which did work out fine, just took about 20 weeks to finally be approved because of the 2017 backlog.April 26, 2019 at 1:06 pm #2355354Phishphish55ParticipantYes, I sent in my original application before 8/1/09 and was approved to take the exam at that point. Life got in the way and I finally was able to pass all 4 exams within the 18 mos window. I had a couple delays in getting all my paperwork in but now just waiting and hoping. I was thinking that if NASBA approved me to sit for the exam, wouldn't that same education float with NYSED? (And float is a facetious term, I went to a great school with an accredited business program and got an accounting degree and made sure I met all the requirements laid out for licensure). Just hoping it's nothing and normal and that I can expect my license sooner rather than later 🙂

I'd give it another couple weeks and then check back in with NYS to make sure everything is in order.
It might just be a matter of reviewing your education/transcripts because they are so old, they might need to cross reference historical course codes with current and things of that nature.
I wouldn't worry about it yet, but be sure to do your due diligence and follow up every couple weeks. They are horrible about contacting you to let you know something is missing.May 6, 2019 at 9:14 am #2380557TiorysParticipantHello All!
I spoke to the NYS Office of the Professions today to inquire about my pending application & was told that they are currently reviewing applications that were placed in the queue as of April 26th and that I got on the queue on May 1st. They said if everything is in order that I should know if I was approved in a few weeks (2-3 weeks).
They did tell me that they will most likely not notify me if I do get approved, so I should periodically check their online verification page to see if my name shows up. Best of luck to all potential NYS CPA's!

I sent out my applications in 3/29/2019. My license was registered in 5/10/2019. It’s a little over 5 weeks. Hope it helps.May 15, 2019 at 8:39 am #2403357ReckedParticipantNice!! thanks for the update.
It seems NYS has finally cleared the large backlog, or perhaps was able to replace the staff that left.
5 weeks seems much for reasonable than the 16-20 we had to deal with in the past couple years.June 18, 2019 at 5:45 am #2484795yxh8730ParticipantHi all,
Is there any update on the timeline recently? I mailed out my application on 05/03 and received an email in 05/27 telling me that I am missing one transcript and work experience requirement is satisfied. I asked my college to send my transcript right away. I sent out an email for inquiry in 06/06 but haven’t got anything back yet.
June 20, 2019 at 5:10 pm #2495712ma781ParticipantHi Everyone,
I likewise submitted in May (everything was in probably around May 13) and have since been waiting. After seeing that Yxh8730 got an email about missing materials, I realized I had just been assuming they receive everything and then post your name at some point. Assuming all my materials were in, should I have received an email confirmation from them? Thank you.June 21, 2019 at 5:25 am #2496651yxh8730ParticipantHi Ma781,
I dont think they will send you confirmation for receiving documents. I called them on 6/18 and I was told that they wont send me any email even they approve my application. They will only contact me if there is anything missing. They just told me my transcript is received and is not yet reviewed. Once they done reviewing the transcrip, they will pass it to processing unit. I think you should call them to make sure they have received everything and ask them for timeline. They also tell me my original date wil be keep so I dont need to get on the line again. Our timeline should be closed. Please let me know if there is progess for your application. Good luck!
July 16, 2019 at 10:48 am #2559864Sammy235ParticipantHi all!
Was anyone recently approved and know how long the license approval process currently takes in NY? I sent in my docs on June 18. They told me it only went to the board on July 10, even though I sent everything in a month ago.
Thank you!
July 16, 2019 at 11:11 am #2559885ma781ParticipantSammy–
Per my above post I reached out to state and they told me my education verification had never been received. So I had my schools send in Form 2/transcripts but apparently they never received one of the transcripts (even though I know they were sent together) so I'm having that resent. On my last call with them, however, they told me processing time was 15 weeks, which seems way longer than what the people above experienced. So, I hope they're wrong, but who knows.July 17, 2019 at 11:23 pm #2564409Sammy235ParticipantThanks Ma781. I'm hoping as well that they're wrong. However, it definitely does not seem like they are doing it fast. Originally they told me about 5 weeks and now they are telling me another month.

Is there anyone who has received their license recently who could provide an updated timeline? Thanks!
July 25, 2019 at 10:48 am #2581710BiancaParticipantHi All,
I sent my application in back around November of 2018 knowing that I was still in need of 17 credits and a few more months of experience. I finally completed my credits and was notified I meet the education requirement on 7/19/2019. They received the last document which was my experience form on 7/22/19 and they just told me today that I have been reassigned to the board. They say that I have been placed at the top of the list of other applicants awaiting approval. My question is has anyone experienced this before? If so, how long did it take to get a license number?
Also, does anyone know how often the NYS verification search website is updated? It says daily Monday-Friday but does anyone know if its done for the day in one shot or is it done on an individual basis as they approve each applicant?
Thanks in advance!
