It used to be about 3 months. Anyone know if that’s changed? Thanks!

@Recked – Is it true that the newly licensed CPAs are exempt from taking CPE requirements for the your first triennial period? I looked up on the website and this is what it says: “All newly licensed CPAs (including endorsements from other licensing jurisdictions) are automatically exempted from meeting CPE requirements during their initial triennial registration period. A new licensee
shall become subject to the mandatory continuing education requirements on January 1st immediately following the last day of the initial registration period.” I got my license 8/15/18 and its valid until Jul 2021, this means that I am required to take CPEs from Jan 2022 correct?

The 3 year CPE exemption was just overturned this summer.
Now you need to start your CPE in your first triennial renewal period.
Where ever you read that exemption, the information is outdated and incorrect. I think I posted the reversal link in this thread.
    Link again

Also be advised that NYS requires a NYS specific 4 hour ethics course once every triennial registration period.

@Recked so my CPE hours would begin Jan 2019 since I got my license this month?

Thank you for the article, the NY website still has the triannual information.

    FAR - 2/16 - 78
    BEC - 2/16 - 78
    AUD - 8/16
    REG - 8/16

I would assume they would prorate the CPE hours for part year, but not 100% sure.
I'd aim for 1/3 your normal requirement (or the full load just to be safe.)
I've been taking a lot of the CPAAcademy.org classes this summer. Free classes for 1-2 CPE at a pop. Usually easy enough to fit into my work day when we're not close to a deadline.
I already have CPE requirement in tax due to the EA, but thats only 72 every 3 years with a minimum of 16 with 2 in ethics every year. I should easily hit 40 hours this year so I'll be covered anyway.
I would imagine your firm will be having year end tax CPE at a minimum.

I just read that article again and it appears the law does not go into effect until Jan 1, 2020. Perhaps we all get the exemption for a little longer anyway?

Anyone asked about the date of processing as of today?, late time it was June 15. Is there any update?

@Recked. Does NYS accept CPE from CPAAcademy.org? just double checking, I'm sure you already did your research.

Thank you for the update. I just got an email from them saying my application and forms were sent to the State Board for review on 8/3 (I know the office initially received all of my documents including NASBA transcripts on 7/6) and the email stated that average process time is 16 weeks. I’m prepared for the worst and assuming 16 weeks from 8/3 but here’s to hoping for a shorter timeline, good luck everyone

So my application finally got approved… I thought the wait for the license number would ease up once I got approved but I was wrong lol… It's going to be another grueling 2-4 weeks.

    Hey Guys!

I submitted my paperwork the first week of July and it was received by NYS on 7/5. I had my transcripts sent the week prior. Around the end of July I called to check the status of my application and they said they never received my transcript from one (out of 5) school. Of course Stony Brook confirmed they sent it and it was one of the ones I had to pay for. Requested for them to send it again. Called back beginning of August and they said they had it and they would send it to be reviewed. Called back two weeks ago, they said they were missing the same transcript, then I told them the situation and they magically had the “missing” transcript. So I figured I would email them two days ago to check the status again. No response. Anyone else email and want to let me in on the response time? This has to be one of the most frustrating waiting games!!!!

    Kelly
