It used to be about 3 months. Anyone know if that’s changed? Thanks!

Nevermind, just called. Still on 4/19. I get the impression that they are intentionally keeping the backlog at 3 months. My guess is the next time that date changes is after 7/19/18.

My final passing score was released March 8th (licensed March 14th.)
Congratulatory letter was not post marked until April 12th, just to give you some idea of the time frame in which to expect the letter.
USPS notify/informed delivery is useful to track your mail while you wait for the letter.

The letter just refers you to the NYS ED website for the CPA forms. You can google search NYS CPA Form 1 and Form 4b.
NYS cannot use that letter as proof of passing, they need your scores reported directly from NASBA.

NY Coordinator = James Franklin jfranklin@nasba.org

    Good luck~!

Thanks @Recked. I will request them to forward the score info directly to NYS Office of Prof.

@Recked Thanks for the email re: James Franklin, I had corresponded with him like a year ago but he had a general email (cpaes-coordinator etc.) but he responded to the one you provided within a couple of hours.

Are we to assume NASBA sends our scores to NYSED? I put that in the email also but didn't get a response to that in particular.

Yes, NASBA sends the scores to NYS. Or more correctly perhaps, is to add them to a NYS specific portal?
I am not sure exactly how it works but I attempted to send NYS a screen shot of my score, as well as the score report letter. They could/would not accept anything from me, it had to come directly from NASBA.
My file had already cleared “the board” so the last piece of the puzzle I needed were the passing scores.

Email from NYS. (This is what makes me think they have a portal or some means of access.)

Unfortunately, we can’t accept copies of the score reports. If I can get the scores from NASBA tomorrow, I will, but I don’t have access to Gateway at the moment, and neither does our contact at NASBA who usually looks up the scores when the website is having issues.

Maybe NYS has to use the same Gateway system we do now?

My saga is finally over. Timeline of events below.

    Passed last exam: 3/8/2018
Application complete and forwarded to NYS board: 4/3/2018
Application approved by NYS board: 6/27/2018
Name first appears on website: 7/16/2018

The bottom line is that this process is going to take 14-16 weeks for most people. I regret compulsively checking the website and calling as much as I did, but it's over and I can finally put CPA after my name. All the best of luck to everyone in getting your respective licenses.

Here is a dilemma I have been thinking about. Can you still apply for the license without having the 1 year of experience? So basically fill out Form 1. Email James Franklin to send over education and scores. Then when 1 year hits, have employer send the 4b form?

How far are you from the 1 year mark?
Your file won't make it past the review board until its a complete package, but if you're within 14-16 weeks, then I would probably get that Form 1 in now.
If you can have your boss do a 4B now, even if its short, just put PRESENT as the TO DATE. Then resend a new one once you hit a year?
If you are more than 3-4 months out on your 1 year experience, I would probably wait for now.

December 2016 NYS was running a 6 week timeline on review and licensing, before they lost staff.

Just an fyi, they only posted new licenses once over the past 7 or 8 business days. So it looks like the processing dept is starting to catch up with the approval side.

    Recked,

I still have six months to go. So, I guess I'm waiting. Thanks for the reply.

Hey everyone! I have been following this post diligently, even though I have quite a few weeks of waiting ahead of me. Passed last exam 6/27, sent all requirements in immediately, delivered by mail return receipt on 7/5. Was just curious how you guys know what date they are processing? Is there a phone number? Do they get annoyed if you keep calling? LOL

    Thanks a bunch!

Yes, there is a phone number, and yes they get annoyed.
If you call, don't give them your name, just ask what date they are on.
And try not to call everyday. If you call, post here so other can see the date, and don't also call.
They probably spend half their time answering the phone just to say what date they are on.

Fyi I spoke with someone at x270 today and she told me that the actual processing of the license once the board approves you is about 3 weeks.

My application was accepted exactly 3 months to the day after I completed it (4-9-18 to 7-9-18.) Still waiting for them to issue my license #. This part of the waiting process is a bit less painful though, because they have essentially run out of opportunities to screw me over. I feel bad for the guy that said he thinks he'll have to take an audit class over again. I am not sure I could have handled that at this point.
