OK – so i have the following experience / education

15 years in private / corporate accounting (under licensed CPAs that will sign off) — no public accounting office experience

    120 hours – graduated in 1997

I have asked around and have heard that i am eligible to sit for the exam.

I called NYS and at first the women said i wasnt eligible without 150 hours but then said i would be able due to the experience

Would anyone here know for sure? I am going to submit my application to the NASBA shortly

    Thanks

You would have had to have have submitted you application for licensure (the NYS Form 1) and paid the license fee by August 2009 to be grandfathered under 120 credit rule.

I made sure I did the above before the deadline expired, so I will be grandfathered under 120 credits. If you did this as well, you should be good.

However, from what I see here, it sounds like what you were told was accurate regarding you 15 years of experience, as long as your work experience is approved.

    https://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/cpa/cpalic.htm

“Fifteen years of experience acceptable to the State Board for Public Accountancy may be substituted for education for admission to the examination and licensure. This experience must be earned under the direct supervision of a U.S. certified public accountant (CPA) or a New York State public accountant (PA),”

Hopefully this is the case!! Good luck!
