Hi all! I posted in another forum about taking the exam in my senior year and wanted to make sure that I was able to do so. Here is the clip from the webpage:

“The Board may approve an application to take the CPA examination prior to the receipt of a bachelor’s degree, if the concentration in accounting is already complete or is reasonably expected to be completed by the end of the school term within which the examination falls; and an applicant reasonably expects to receive the bachelor’s degree within 120 days after the application is received by the Board. However, if the applicant fails to receive the degree within the specified time, the Exam grades will not be released.”

So… I can’t even apply to take the exam until January? (Within 120 days of my degree?) Once I apply can I be approved and take it before I actually receive my degree? Just double checking… thanks!

I think what that means is that you can apply for the Exam and take it BEFORE you get your degree as long as you complete your degree within 120 days of taking the Exam section(s). Probably if you call the state board or email someone there, you could get an immediate answer. Always better to go to the source.

Just to be safe I would start studying in December and apply for your NTS in mid-January and take your test around mid or end of February. Just make sure that the 120 days before you receive your degree starts from the test date and not the date you apply for your NTS or else you might have to wait a little later. But definitely contact the board directly.

I was in a similar boat but I already had my Masters so I was waiting until I was within 120 days of passing the last accounting class I needed to sit. I applied and sat for FAR before the end of the semester and sat for AUD just after my classes were finished. I had my transcripts sent to the board once I was done and everything was good.

It says if you do not graduate on time, any exam scores you've received to that point will not be released. I don't know what that means exactly though. I got my FAR score before I was finished with my classes so maybe they mean you can't apply that score towards licensing and lose it. Could mean they will hold them until you graduate.

Like @workingforaliving said, reach out to Phyllis Elliot with the Board. She's very responsive to phone calls and e-mails.
