I graduated couple months ago, and not able to find a job. Therefore, I decided to not waste any time and study for CPA exam while I wait for replies. However, I checked the 2014 requirements to sit for the exam which requires

24 semester units (or 36 quarter) in accounting

24 semester units (or 36 quarter) in business-related courses

I am well over the units required for business-related courses, but I am about 2-4 units short on accounting related.

I took 8 accounting classes total in my college career. One of the classes is worth 6 quarter units while seven of them are worth 4 quarters unit each. Total of 34 quarter units. I am only 2 quarter units short. Where can I get this last 2 units fast and simple? Do local community college offers accounting credit? My local community college is literary impossible to register for a class. Most credit classes are full on the first few days, and my register time is always 3 weeks later than everyone else since I’m a new student. I really need help. Where to get this last 2 units easier without the hassle of application and registration time.

Also, I need help choosing which CPA prep courses is the better for me. Is funny, just after 5 months I don’t think I can remember anything about accounting anymore. I may only able to read simple income statement and balance sheet, and that is it. I tend to cram everything in my head the few days before exam during college, which is why I forget everything by now. Is there CPA prep course that teaches us step by step on how to do problems for every topic? I researched about some CPA review courses, and I think I like RogerCPA due to fun teaching style. I really like class-room style also, but if they are hard to find I can manage with online stream. I just need a review course that offer help at any time for any kind of questions. I like to study during night time to mid-night, which may be a problem to find instant help and replies.

    Thanks.

Sit for the exam in New Jersey. They are giving a waiver if you don't have the accounting requirement. Only need a bachelors degree. I'm accounting credits short but decided to start taking the exam

just checked on some online/distance class in my state, tuition fee's crazy!! I really regretted that I didn't register the academic credit program at RogersCPA review. Also, I asked CPAexcel for their similar program. Their sales just doesn't reply email which left me no good impression on it at all.

So I'm out of option for my short credits, too? Pls help!!!

I took all of my accounting credits through Louisiana State University: https://is.lsu.edu/courselist.asp?cat=Accounting&nid=102&pg= The courses marked “online” are 8 weeks – 6 months long, self-paced within those parameters, entirely online including exams; the courses marked “web-enabled” are limited to 3 homework submissions per 7 days, so a 15-lesson long class would be at least 5 weeks, all web-enabled are maximum of 9 months long. Exams are mailed to your face-to-face proctor, so a bit longer to mail exams back and forth. $505 for a 3-credit course (plus exam proctor fees – approx $30 per exam for “online”, probably free for “web-enabled” ). Speed, ease, return on $$$s, and convenience are all available through LSU. Classes start whatever day you register and transcripts can be sent as soon as the final assignment/exam is graded (well a week or two for processing, but no waiting till June or anything like that).

Hey Lilla, thanks for the info, exactly what I'm looking for!

Only the link isn't quite working and I found a list of course available right now

    https://reg.outreach.lsu.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=programBrowse&CatalogID=1009

I'm not sure if there's more coming (after the holidays) but I can't find any “cost/management accounting” as for now

Hmm the link worked for me… Their course offerings hardly change, so I wouldn't expect more after the holidays, but here's a link directly to their Cost Analysis and Control (the book, if I remember right, was called “Cost Management”): https://is.lsu.edu/coursefactsheet.asp?nid=301&Rubric=ACCT&CourseNr=3121&Version=O The link that you found is the courses offered through their new “online” platform; Cost Analysis and Control is still under their “web-enabled” format. So, there's a few more if you see both groups. Here's a link to the home page of their “Independent and Distance Learning” – https://is.lsu.edu/home.asp?level=CO&online=0&nid=101 From there, you can go to “College Level Courses” and then “Accounting” to see the list of all accounting online courses, both the new and old formats. If you click on one in the new format (listed as “online”), then it will take you to the new format's home page, so if you're interested in one marked as “online” you can get there easier using the link that you found. 🙂

You have no idea how thankful I am.

Thanks again for the details. I hope machi123 can get the help he's looking for as well.

Only thing I'm not quite sure is the “exam proctor”. I'm in NY state. Do I have to go find a college and ask for a classroom and someone to monitor me doing the exam?
