    Hello All,

Anybody out there familiar with Maryland CPA license requirements. There website is not useful at all. I have taken three parts in NY already and moving to Maryland. Not sure I should stick with New York or transfer my scores to Maryland. Any Advice? Thank You

You need 120 to sit for the exam and 150 to be licesened, you need 1 year (2,000 hrs) of accounting experience (they list your options on the experience form), and you need to do the ethics course. Any other questions? Or specific questions? I had to search and search to find all the info, which you finally realize is located on the actual applications. You may also want to consider finishing up in NY and then transferring to MD, if you NEED to be licensed in MD, because i have heard that your passed exam may not transfer over to a new state. I would call the board on this last part since i don't know if this is true with Maryland.

Check out the “File an Original Exam Application” Link on this page: https://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cpa/cpaexam/

Licensing requirements for specific courses you need to have: https://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cpa/cpareq.shtml

Check out the froms/applications on this page for more rules and also for Reciprocity (transfer) requirements: https://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cpa/cpaaff.shtml

    Hope this all helps.

I passed my last section in March and here is my timeline:

2/25/14 – Took last exam FAR

3/08/14 – Received last passing score

3/11/14 – Ordered Ethics CD from AICPA site (cost about 180 with taxand shipping)

    3/12/14 – Mailed Experience Form

3/13/14 – Received Ethics Exam CD

3/18/14 – Completed Ethics exam (took me one try)

    3/19/14 – Mailed Ethics Certificate

3/19/14 – Received call from Board that they had received work experience but not the Ethics Exam receipt (I should have mailed them both together)

3/27/14 – 8:07am Received email from board with instructions for paying for license

    3/27/14 – 8:27am Paid $20 for license

They said I should be able to get my license number (they give you the site in the email) in a couple days and that my actual license is in the mail. I'll update here once I receive the license.

3/28/14 – Received the email with my license/certificate in PDF that I can print.

No wall certificate though. I'm going to call them Monday and make sure I don't receive anything else.

I'm in the same situation but not as far along as you. I got my degree in NY and completed the CPA exam. I wanted to register there but my firm says I have to take the ethics exam (I work in Bethesda, MD), So, I ordered it. If/when I pass the ethics exam, do I get a certificate? (Right now, I haven't transferred anything to MD and NY doesn't require ethics). Or, when I pass, do I have to submit it to a state right away? I'm worried that I can go through the effort of doing the ethics requirement but then losing it because I'm not registered for a state that requires it (as of right now).

@emdefenistration The AICPA course provides a certificate that you can print or save once you pass. Also its one of their courses so you won't lose the credit for it because you didn't send it in right away. I would just make sure that you still have to take the Ethics Exam once you transfer to MD and make sure they do not have a time limit for you to take the Ethics exam. The only time restriction i remember is that you have to complete your work experience within 3 years of submitting the work experience form but it might be different since you have to transfer scores.

    Congratulations!

Does MD send out wall certificates too? Or is the PDF version the only thing you get?

I don't know i forgot to call but this older post from last year the poster (NWATSB) said they received an 14X17. Looks like it took him/her about a month to receive it.

Unfortunately, “to improve efficiency and eliminate waste, Maryland is no longer printing and mailing licenses.” Ridiculous!

That is ridiculous. They should at least give you the option to buy one.

I emailed the Board and this is what i got back verbatim: “You will receive a large wall certificate in the next 30-60 days.” So we still get the wall certificate, just the license is PDF. They are 2 different things.
