Kentucky license timeline?

    Hey all

Anyone updated on the current timeline for Kentucky licenses?

I was told at one point in December that there would be a board meeting on Dec 19, but that it might be cancelled and that the next one would be like Jan 22. Haven’t heard anything since, so I guess it’s Jan 22? Then what happens, will I get an e-mail or how does it work and how long will it normally take?

    Thanks

Not sure the current meeting schedule, but after the meeting I got a letter in the mail with my license number and my license number also showed up online. Especially given that your mail would take longer being international, I'd suggest you check the KY site for your license now and if it's not there, then check religiously after the 22nd. When I was licensed, I didn't know the meeting schedule (and was busy moving), so wasn't checking every day and can't say for sure how long it takes for them to show up online; however, I know that when I got my letter, I could see my info online, so I'd guess you'll see it online before you get your letter. I didn't get any email, though – KY is not the most techy state. 😉

The certificate is sent about a month or two later if I remember right. Once I had the letter and license number, I didn't worry too much about when the certificate came. 🙂

Can any other fellow Kentuckians give input about their licensing wait time? I mailed my application last week and I'm already chomping at the bit here hoping mine gets processed soon. I probably need to demonstrate some patience and expect a more reasonable timeframe.

    FAR: 84 (11/14/14)
    AUD: 90 (01/15/15)
    BEC: 82 (02/24/15)
    REG: 81 (05/09/15)

    MBA: 12/21/10
    CPA: 07/16/15 (KY)
    CMA: TBD?

I am licensed in KY. Typically, there is a monthly board meeting that approves all applications. Once you have met and submitted all requirements, your application will be presented to the board and once approved, you get the license number and an approval letter within 48 to 72 hour. So the timing depends on when the board meets. In my case , it took about two months, because the board didn't meet in the month after my application was received , so I had to wait for an extra 30 days to get licensed. If no delays, it should be a month.

I checked the calendar and it looks like I just missed the cutoff for the recent Board meeting. I'm guessing I'll have to wait a few months as it looks like the next meeting is in July. Bummer.

    Thanks for sharing!

Does anyone know the process for Kentucky? Sent in my application this morning! Just wondering if it has to wait to go before the board and what notification / items I'll receive in the mail. Our accountancy board's website leaves a lot to be desired!

Sounds like we're going to have to wait a while. I mailed my application on 5/28/15 (the day of the last Board meeting!) and haven't gotten any communications from the Board as of today, 6/10/15. The next meeting isn't until 7/16/15, so my guess is they'll start issuing licenses at the end of July or beginning of August. Though that's just a ballpark estimate. I've been checking to see if my license number is posted online. No luck.

And I agree about the website. It looks like it was made in 1995 by a high school student.

While the KY website leaves something to be desired their customer service does not. Really good people working in the office down there. Pick up the phone and call and they will answer any questions you have promptly and correctly. They will be able to give you confirmation on receiving your application and when the licenses will be granted. You can also call the day of the board meeting to obtain your license number so you can go ahead and hold yourself out as a CPA without waiting for the paperwork to be mailed.

I think the Board must have been reading this thread. Looks like the website got a fresh coat of paint since yesterday.

Wow! That is a much better format! Still not a lot of information for CPA applicants, but a huge improvement none the less 🙂

I found out I passed FAR (my final test) today and then looked to see when the next board meeting is… Thursday. I guess I'll be waiting until the September meeting.

I thought I'd update this for any Kentucky test takers out there.
June 29 – received final passing score, mailed in application and experience form
August 23* – Kentucky State Board of Accountancy has their monthly meeting
August 27 – My License number shows up on Kentucky State Board of Accountancy website, dated August 23
*It is worth noting, they canceled the July Board meeting or else this process likely takes a month less than it did.
