Interstate transfer

Not sure what to do next.

I applied for the CPA exam under Hawaii jurisdiction, since that’s where I was living at the time. I then moved to Illinois, where I ultimately want to get licensed. I already passed the REG section. My plan was to just transfer my score from HI to IL. Unfortunately I just realized that IL requires 30 credit hours of accounting courses. I only have 26. So I don’t qualify to sit for the exam in IL and can’t transfer my score.

What should I do next? One of my options is to take 4 more credits, and start the test all over in Illinois. The only other option I can think of is to keep taking the test under Hawaii jurisdiction, get licensed, then transfer the license from HI to IL. But I’m not sure if that is too risky or if I might run into any problems once it’s time to transfer the license.

Keep testing as a candidate of Hawaii, when you pass your exam you would then transfer scores to IL and apply for licensure in IL. Yes, you may have to take additional education for licensure. Review the types of licensure applications for IL, they usually have an INITIAL (took the exam as an IL Candidate) Transfer of grades (self explanatory) or Reciprocal (meaning you are licensed in one state and want to be eligible in another based on your current license) see what the educational requirements would be for each type of application.

Thanks for the feedback. From my research so far, I can't transfer the scores themselves since I didn't meet the education requirements before I sat for the exam. I can get licensed in Hawaii and apply for reciprocity later on but I think regardless I'll have to meet the Illinois education requirements to get licensed.
