Hi everyone,

I passed my cpa exams and got my IL certificate back in 2019 then I went to law school. While I was in law school I was a teaching assistant at the college of business. I recently submitted my CPA license application based on my teaching assistant experiences. Does anyone know if that can counts toward experiences requirement? Or has anyone tried this before? Any information would be helpful and thank you in advance.

I don't know about IL, but for MD, you have to have it signed by a CPA. Usually, you have it signed by a CPA that you've worked under. So, if you are a teacher and you are not working under a CPA, it may not count.

I am not sure if this would count for the work experience requirement in IL, but it is a broad requirement. I did not work as an accountant but worked in financial analysis and budgeting areas. It was not an issue with getting licensed. In Illinois, your experience does not need to be signed off on by a CPA.
