How much time does it normally take IDFPR to process a license application? I’m an international candidate (don’t have a SSN) so I wasn’t able to apply online to become a Registered CPA. Last time I checked with IDFPR, they received my paper application on April 27 and it would take 4-6 weeks to process my application. In order to get an update on my application, I tried for the last couple of days to call by phone (2177828556) and e-mail FPR.PRFGROUP01@illinois.gov and I wasn’t able to get any response.

    REG: 80 (02/02/2012)
    FAR: 91 (02/06/2012)
    AUD: 89 (02/09/2012)
    BEC: 79 (02/12/2012)

    Ethics: 90 (02/11/2012)

So everyone that had their CPA exams passed as well as ethics scores submitted by today, should have had their grades and certification # sent into IDPRF. Anyone in this passing window know how long it takes for IDPRF to record your scores so you can apply online? I heard anywhere from a week to a month. I'm hoping its the former so I can fill out an online application.

After calling the IDPRF office and being transferred to the certification office (phone # 217 782 8556) every time I call, I get a busy signal.

    Anyone have luck with this?

Can anyone answer a couple of application questions?

    1) Part IV do i have to list my series 7 and series 63 liscense?

    2) Part V did you write every part of the CPA that you passed ie REG, FAR etc or just Uniform CPA Examination and when you got your final passing score?

    FAR 80
    REG 76
    AUD 85
    BEC 85
    Ethics 98

    Here you go: https://www.idfpr.com/renewals/apply/PublicAccountant.asp

I have to agree, IDFPR website can be extremely confusing

    Hey man!

I need your opinion on something. I applied to a master's program that concentrate on Forensic Accounting.

And when I asked my Saudi professors about it, some told me it is a good and powerful field although new. And some told me that this specialty doesn't exist in Saudi Arabia nor the Arab world as a whole and that I better focus on Financial Accounting instead.

I am confused now. What do you think I should do? I will work in academia so you know.

Thanks and sorry for writing here but I couldn't reach you otherwise :)) All the best wishes

Honestly, I made some bad career moves myself so I hardly consider myself a good fit for career advice but I think that both opinions are partially valid. If you get your CPA in the future, getting a Masters with focus on financial accounting seems a little bit redundant to me. Forensic Accounting might not be that widespread in the Arab World but I'm sure there is a nice niche for it and it would distinguish you from other highly qualified job candidates even if you decide to work in a none-forensic area (i.e. Consultancy or Internal Audit).

At the end of the day the choice is really up to you, but I would recommend for you to focus on that area only if you enjoy forensic accounting (or at least you are more interested in it than other areas). I learned throughout my career that unless you choose an extremely obscure non-practical major, then you can't really guarantee what will happen few years later in the job market so follow your guts and don't worry too much about it!

    Thanks man!

That really helped me! My guts tells me over and over again that I must specialize in Forensic Accounting. So I will follow my heart.

    Thanks šŸ™‚
