How to evaluate if my class credits are counted toward CPA requirements

    Hi all!

I live in NY and I’ll be graduating in May with 120 crs. I’m not really considering taking the Master’s route, so I need to figure out how many more accounting-related crs I should take to qualify for CPA licensure. According to NASBA, I’ll need 36 credits for general business. The thing is, I’m not quite sure if the classes I’ve taken meet the requirement, solely based on the course names. Following is the list of the classes that I think may suffice:

    Intro to Macroeconomics
    Intro to Microeconomics
    Macro-Economic Analysis
    Business Law I
    Business Law II
    Money & Banking
    Corporation Finance
    Business Economics
Statistics as Applied to Economics & Business
—–according to Becker, Computer Science classes could be counted toward general business elective:
Computers with Bus App or Personal Computers
    Intro Algorithmic Problem Solving

Is there a way to evaluate if the classes above have met the requirement? I am really confused. Much appreciation for any advice! ^~^

The best way to evaluate this is to contact your State Board of Accountancy and ask them if the classes will qualify. That is what I would do.

Why don't you read the NYS Education requirement list? It clearly said all economic class and computer science are counted as business credits. I don't understand which part you don't understand.

36 semester hours in general business electives in any combination of the following areas:

business statistics; business law; computer science; economics; finance; management;marketing; operations management;organizational behavior;business strategy;quantitative methods; or information technology and systems.

Thank you for your reply. I used NYS Education Department's course list (http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/cpa/cpa150hour.htm#) as a reference and it didn't cover economics and CS for the general business sector, so it left me confused. I appreciate the confirmation. Hope you have a nice day.

No problem. The classes sounded so familiar. I hope you are not in the same school as I am. I was minor in economics and I hate it. I got a C- in my class. Not talented.

I am more talented in Computer Science and I regret not taking it as a minor.

Not a fan of economics either, I'd say it's probably more about interest than talent, because overall economics is mostly conceptual. As for CS tho, you do need to be talented. I switched into CS for one semester and I ended up failing miserably. So I do admire and respect people who do well in CS! And you should be proud that you have earned double majors =)
FYI I study at Queens College.

Different school same school system. No I am not a double major. I'm very royal to accounting in both bachelor and masters.

I don't actually know how to programming, but I know how to copy codes on Excel Macro to make my life easier. I picked up from watching YouTube. I therefore concluded that I am definitely more talent in CS than economics.
