FL–How Quickly Can I Get NTS?

If you have started the exam process in FL, how long did it take from the time you applied until you received your NTS?

Background: I applied with the FL Board of Accountancy in January, but had one deficiency (3 hours of business law). I am currently taking the course now and will complete it in early May. I have requested that my school send my transcript as soon as grade post (most likely will be mailed out 5/7/13 and received by the DBPR on 5/8/13). Ideally, I would like to schedule BEC before May is over. Is it likely that I will have time to receive my NTS and schedule the exam?

    Hey Jferjamey,

    May might be pushing it…

Before I graduated in August (around the 8th of the month) of 2012, the “people in the know” at my college kept telling me to plan ahead, because it takes forever to get approval from DBPR. Now, I can't tell you if it was because I graduated in August and no one was sending in applications, or because the “people in the know” had no idea what they were talking about, but I got my approval in about 10 days.

But that is just approval from the state. When you get your approval, you have to use that infomation, and setup an account on the NASBA website. You apply for the NTS on the NASBA website, and that took me exactly one week from the date I applied for the NTS to get the approval for that.

My guess, is you won't make the May window, but it doesn't hurt to try.

    FAR - Studying [4/1/2013 - ???] Test [??/??/????]
    AUD - [Who Knows]
    REG - [Don't Panic]
BEC - [Can't think that far ahead]

Randomness–thank you so much. I originally applied in January and heard back from them in 6 days, which is why I was thinking I may be able to make the May timeline. I didn't realize that I have to apply to NASBA after I get the okay from the DBPR, however. I will plan to take the exams starting in January and study for FAR beginning in May.

laserglare–they did accept my BUL class (3320), but I did not have 6 credits, only 3. I am taking an MBA business law class now (BUL 6652–Regulatory and Reporting Environment) and it is pre-approved by the board. If you have any questions regarding whether or not they will accept your class, your advisor or the head of the accounting department at your school will know, as they are the ones who submit the course info to the state board of accountancy for approval.
