Extension?

I have heard of people getting a one time extension for a part. My current situation is that I failed FAR in the last window and am planning on taking it again in April. It was the last one I needed before 3/31. Do you think NY State would provide me an extension for the part I am set to lose on 3/31?

The problem I see is that I wont know my new FAR score until freaking June. I am losing Reg and while I passed it first try last time, I am not sure how. I feel like if I retake REG before June and fail they will definitely not give me an extension.

This new scoring at the end of the window thing is going to screw alot of people up.

I think most state boards want to see that you passed them all – before they grant you an extension. You can call and ask but I know my board said to wait. So you might have to wait until June. But your fall off period is when you take it so from March to April. They’ll see that.

FAR: 65 (still drying my tears) 2nd attempt: 7/2016
BEC: 81 5/2016 (WOO FIRST PASS!)
    REG: 5/2016
    AUD: 8/2016

Good luck. I lost a BEC credit because I got a 64 on another part and had to wait over 60 days for my score. And Kansas wouldn't grant me an extension. They basically told me I should have planned for the delayed score release.

    Sorry I meant a 74 – not 64!

Before you call your State Board, draft your letter request for extension. Make sure your letter states compelling reasons why they should extend your grade. The most compelling reasons would be death, accident, health issues in the family, new baby, loss of job, divorce, foreclosure, relocation, etc. Come up with something serious, urgent, and/or important. High pressure at work could also be a very compelling reason.

In many states like in KY, candidates should request BEFORE the expiry, but NOT after the score has already expired. In your case, for your grade expiring on 3/31, SUBMIT YOUR LETTER NOW. Your State Board might be able to grant you a provisional approval of extension. More likely they will say, “If you successfully pass FAR in Q3 Testing Window, we will reinstate your REG score.”

If you don’t pass FAR, there’s no point of them reinstating your REG. Candidates can only use one-time extension of any CPA parts in any given quarter.
