Hi All,

I have one exam left and I am taking it in a few days … Feel pretty good, but anyway here is my question. I have been n accounting for 15 years now… I was working under an active CPA for the past year and a half, however, the situation was not all good and lo and behold I happened on something quite close to my dream job.

That being said, no one here is a CPA and as I have said my previous supv was … Can he sign for me still (if he is even willing?) And will having 15 years help at all?? Are there any states that don’t require the experience and I can change my Jurisdiction?

Any help or advice is appreciated … I hope I just didn’t waste a year of my life passing these exams …

If GA just requires 1 year, I'd tell your supervisor that's a CPA that you're almost ready to take your final exam and ask him if he'd mind to sign off on your experience paperwork, since you want to have everything ready to send in as soon as you get your final score (or if GA allows it, tell him you want to send it in ahead of time). That way, you can get his signature now and get your paperwork in order, then you won't have to worry about the experience paperwork at your new job.

I thought I saw something about GA also accepting “reasonable proof” of 5 years of accounting work, so you may be able to go that route without the CPA sign off, but I'm not an expert on GA so just throwing it out as an idea.

EDIT: Re-read your post, and realized that I think you're already at the new job, right? So, never mind about trying to get your CPA supervisor to sign off before switching jobs. I think I saw something on GA's site about requiring that the experience be immediately prior to the application, so if that's the issue, then I'd suggest checking some other states. Many just require that it be within the past x years or have no time limitation at all, so if your prior supervisor is willing to sign off, you'd be all set. KY is one of those. There's also some (MA maybe?) that accept a Graduate degree in place of CPA signed-off experience for a non-reporting license, so if you have a graduate degree, that might be an option.
