Hello,

i currently have b.a. in economics and was wondering if it will be possible for me to take accounting courses at a community college to satisfy the remaining requirements for the test?

just to make sure, even if i do not have an actual ‘accounting’ degree, as long as i enough credit hours in accounting courses, will that satisfy the requirements?

I am in VA in case that makes any difference

It depends on the state. In Florida, generally no as they have to be upper level accounting courses. In Texas no most of the time except they have a list of approved community colleges. It looks like VA may take some lower level courses except for the intro courses.

Northern VA Community College has most of the accounting courses you will need.

VA allows CC classes, some states do not. It always best to visit your BOA to review the educational requirements. For example, I believe NE will not allow CC classes after you have earned your BS/BA.

Some community colleges have special accounting programs that are designed for students who need to fill CPA eligibility requirements and are approved by the state board. The courses are not intro accounting. They range from intermediate to advanced financial, cost, individual and corporate tax, research, audit, etc., so they are considered upper division. You just need to check with your state board to find out which community colleges have such programs in your state. You should be able to find a list of approved CC programs on the board's website.
