Hi, I am currently studying for the FAR which will be my first time taking any part of the CPA.

I received an email from NASBA stating that I am eligible to sit for the New York State CPA exam, however, I still need 5 SHRS in Accounting in order to be eligible for the license.

I recently graduated and will start work in the end of August. What would be the best recommendation for me to finish those 5SHRS in Accounting while not delaying my goal of obtaining the license by next summer August? Take online courses? summer courses? at a community college?

    Thank you

I'd say the cheapest courses you can find. I already think the 150 credit rule for NY and other states is a waste of money, it doesn't make us better CPAs! Just check with NY state to make sure that the college is accredited. But I'd suggest community college or online!

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

I would suggest online classes, I actually obtained my 150 from State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT), It is a state school and is accredittted by the mid-states alliance something or other and the AASCB (Not sure if I got the acronyms corrrect). Tuition is about $1,000 per class (graduate), and you can take up to two classes before you are even accepted into the program, so if you only need two classes you would be all set. I would not recommend the community college since NY requires some classes to be from the upper division (which you can not get from a community college).

    BEC 84 Q4 2010
    REG 79 Q1 2011
    FAR 86 Q2 2011 - Done
