Does the State you apply for licensure affect your ability to pass the CPA exam?

    I am hearing conflicting things PLEASE ADVICE!!! Some state have more candidates than others and the CPA exam is skewed to some capacity based on your peers performance. So is it possible that it could easier to pass the CPA in a state with fewer candidates?

    You're over-thinking it. There are no shortcuts with the CPA. Hard work + comprehension = passing advisory score.

    That said, I did sit for an exam around tax time thinking all my corporate peers will be tired, spent and overworked. Made no difference (not that I have access to records to actually quantify that)

    AUD - 75*, 88 done 5/14! (*exp)
    BEC - 74 , 77
    REG - 65 , 76 (10 point combooo!!)
    FAR - 69 , 75

    Dr: perseverance
    Dr: intelligence
    Dr: luck
    . Cr: . advisory score

    The exam itself is uniform, it doesn't matter where you take it. In my opinion the reason why certain states have higher pass rates is because of the education in those states may be more aligned with CPA exam material.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

    Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

    Utah seems to have the highest pass rate, and that could be because 1) BYU has a fantastic Accounting program, or 2) Mormons spend more time studying and less time partying 😛

    That assertion is not impossible. Yet, it's not verifiable by “mere” candidates.

    You have to be an insider to know the real deal -:)

    Personally speaking, I wouldn't doubt it's possibility unless I KNOW otherwise!

    The stricter education requirements probably contribute too, but I don't know for sure.

    CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

    I have to say that for REG I scored 11 points higher when I took it in the heart of “busy season.” I know for certain that I guessed/missed more questions, so I think I have to give credit to the fact that some of the pros sat it out, thereby skewing the scoring in my favor.
