Hey all! Currently, I have 142 credit hours and am trying to finish up the 150, but before I make the plans to do so, I have a question I need some help answering.

For background, I received 127 credit hours at the undergrad level, and 15 through my university’s MAcc program. Here’s the thing….I’m working full-time in another city and now can’t complete the MAcc. Therefore, to make it to 150, I want to do some online courses through a local community college. The question is, does it matter what grade level these courses are? To be honest, I’m looking at taking a few basic classes like Excel or Word. Will that matter or does it just matter that I reach 150 however possible? I’m in Tennessee if that makes a difference in your answer.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I'm in TN too. When I applied to take the CPA exam, you only needed 24 accounting hours and 24 business hours. Of the business hours, half of them had to be at or above the 300(0) level. I think the requirement is now 30 accounting hours and 24 business hours, though I'm not sure when that requirement kicked in. I took several online community college classes, and they all counted, but you have to make sure you have enough upper level classes too. I also took a bunch of online upper level classes through TN Tech. They have nearly their entire accounting degree online so that people can work and get the classes for the exam at the same time.

Oh, and make sure when you take classes at a community college that they transfer to a 4 year college, or they don't count.

Sorry if I wasn't clear before, I have my bachelor's in accounting and was working on the master's. So what you're saying is as long as the courses I want to take at the community college are transferrable to a four-year college/university, then I'm okay?
