Hey all,
Brand new to the forum, will start studying soon to take the exams after I graduate in the Spring with a macc. I cannot get a hold of my home state’s (CO) accountancy board. My undergrad was in a liberal arts major so I had to take a few accounting and business pre-reqs to get into a macc program, and I will have a sufficient number of accounting credits to sit and get licensed in CO (33). Unfortunately my entire university course load is very light on business courses. I have 12 right now if they count an “Applying Leadership Principles” course I took in UG, and will finish the macc with 15 business credits.
That leaves me 4-5 courses short to get licensed.
Does anybody know if CO will count accounting credits above the minimum hours as “business credits”? I would think classes such as “Controllership” and “Interpreting Accounting info” and “XBRL financial applications” would count as business courses, but I am not sure.
If not, is there anything stopping me from testing in a less stringent state, getting my work experience signed off/licensed and then just transferring it over to CO? I’m interviewing with firms soon, would they have a problem with this?
Just figured I’d ask, if I can save money and additional headache of school to get licensed it would be great.
If I cannot do any of this and need to just take the additional classes prior to starting with a firm next Fall, does anybody have any recommendations for a cost-effective and quick way to obtain the business courses (18 have to be “above introductory level” so I’m guessing community college classes won’t suffice).
