I’m a prospective student for the University of Maryland MSB (Master of Business) Accounting program. After graduation, I would like to pursue the CPA exam in Maryland; however I’m unsure if I would meet the CPA education requirements. My questions:

    1. Regarding the AUDITING section, do “BUAC 790: Information Security, Audit and Control” or “BUAC 792: Forensic Accounting and Auditing” (both taken in University of Maryland) meet the requirements?

    2. Regarding the QUANTITATIVE METHODS section, do “OPRE 202: Statistical Data Analysis” or “OPRE 315: Business Application of Decision Science” (both taken in University of Baltimore) meet the requirements?

    3. Regarding the FINANCIAL ACOUNTING section, are “BUS 215: Financial Accounting” (taken in Allegany College of Maryland) and “BUAC 780: Financial Statement Analysis” (taken in University of Maryland) considered as two different classes that fulfill 6 of the 9 credit requirement?

Unfortunately, the Maryland State Board of Public Accountancy can only pre-view my courses AFTER graduation which would be too late since I would be unable to take anymore classes if required. Moreover, the University of Maryland does not have a CPA specialist to answer my questions. Frankly, I am devastated and do not know how to handle this situation. Is there anybody that could help me(i.e. CPA specialist) determine if I would meet the requirements BEFORE graduation?

No need to be devastated and you don't really need them to evaluate your classes, if you just follow the board approved accounting curriculum===> https://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cpa/cpareq.shtml#cirr

You should be able to call the board and get a specific answer to a specific question. I understand that they won't formally review your transcripts but most state boards are exceptionally helpful by phone. I would insist on getting the information you're looking for from an authority on the subject.

And yeah the possibility always exists that you may have to take additional courses after graduation to meet a specific requirement. Would be ideal to get them all out of the way before you graduate but you can still be a CPA even if it takes a bit longer.

I already contacted the board via phone but they insisted that they can't help me with my request.
