The law in Indiana states “An applicant’s experience in a particular position meets the requirements in IC 25-2.1-3-10 if the work is verified by the holder of an active certificate issued by the board or issued by another state so long as the certificate allows the holder to perform similar acts to those allowed to be performed by certificate holders in Indiana who…”

Does anyone know if this might include having your experience verified by a CPA holder licensed in Canada. I know the license is completely different than the US license (acronym means something different, different requirements/governing entity), but it does allow “the holder to perform similar acts to those allowed to be performed by certificate holders in Indiana”.

I emailed the Indiana Board and their response was pretty useless. Basically just said here’s a copy of the law (which I already had), that the state Attorney General says they can not give advisory opinions, if you have any questions/concerns contact a lawyer.

The wording “holder of an active certificate issued by the board or issued by another state” appears to mean a state within the United States. Canada is a completely different country with a completely different license. A chartered accountant from Canada cannot practice as a certified public accountant in the United States without obtaining licensure. I would be very surprised if what you are asking is allowed.

That's what I figured, just a discouraged the State Board's response was so worthless. I didn't realizes how different the license at first, plus I figured worst case it would cost a stamp to mail in the forms and time waiting for the rejection.

But, might have to go back into considering transferring my scores to a different state so I can use the NASBA verification service.
