    Hi everyone,

I have a business management Bachelors from a brick and mortar school and a MBA from WGU(online school). I am about to start my bachelors in accounting soon from WGU. My questions are:

-how many total credits are needed for the TX CPA exam?

-how many credits have to be just accounting?

-will TX allow the accounting credits from WGU?

-anyone with an online degree sit for their CPA?

    Thanks!

30 credits in accounting plus a ethics course from the boards approved list and a business comm class also from the approved list. At least 15 hours of your accounting courses have to be in a traditional classroom setting (not online or blended course).

In KY, the fact that my classes were predominantly online was neither known nor asked. I have never stepped foot on the campus of my alma mater and only took gen ed's and a couple business classes in a brick-and-mortar – all of my accounting classes were from a school in Louisiana, I graduated through a school in NJ, and it was never an issue.

Looks like TX requires 15 credits be in-person. That's bizarre…I really don't think they should make such rules. If the accrediting body accredits the course, who is the board to say whether it's better learned in person or online? 😐 Seems odd to me. But glad that someone found that information and could share it for TX students.

I guess the point for anyone else reading this with the same question is that you'd better check with your state specifically, but if you're in TX, prepare to take some trips to campus. πŸ™‚
