California – Once Work Hours Are Submitted does the Board verify with HR?

I read somewhere on this forum that this is the protocol.

I am a bit concerned as my boss never answers his calls and uses both a receptionist and voice mail to screen the people he wants to call back. He travels a lot and is very difficult to reach if you don’t have his cell phone and know how to “work his system.”

If this is the case, is there a way to submit the verification form with an alternate phone or some secondary method of contact?

If your boss uses voicemail and legitimately signs off on your hours why wouldn't he return a call to the board?

I have no idea whether this is CA's protocol or not but I am a bit suspicious that maybe someone is forging a boss' name and making sure theres no way they'd get caught for it.

    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

As far as I know, California does not verify with HR once you submit your work experience form. I suppose if they had a reason to suspect fraud they may, but otherwise I do not think they do.

I've never thought about whether or not they verify. Maybe they just have all of the CPA's signatures on hand since they all our information once certified lol who knows…..

I work at a small office and CBA has NEVER called. I am not licensed yet, but I know it is because of my units, had nothing to do with my experience. So I don't think that is their protocol.

CA CPA - All because of the journey listed below
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    FAR - 53('10), 8/25/12 79 PASSED!
    REG - 66('11), 69('12), 12/06/12 77 PASSED!!
    BEC - 58('10), 74('12), 01/05/13 77 PASSED!!!
    AUD - 43('11), 66('12), 69('13), 74('13) 7/29/13 85 PASSED!!!!!

    Fraud? – Wowzers…

My boss is impossible to get a hold of. I've seen clients be very upset that after 3-4 weeks he hasn't called back.

I'd hate to think that I spent a lot of time working with him to end up falling short in the end. – Especially if they knew how call a different number, he'd pick up every time.

It seems my best course of action is to plead with him to continually check his voice mail AND respond promptly if they call.

    – That's putting a lot of faith in my boss…. =-)

You'd be surprised….I know this girl who actually asked me if I knew anyone who would sign off on her work experience!!! Because she passed her CPA exam but never worked under a CPA……..I was like: “You must be joking, right?!?!?”

I am a state employee, so my work experience is verified by HR prior to sending the form. Not sure how they do it in private. You can always call CBA and ask. Just don't give them your name 😉

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

I worked under my manager who we both worked for a CPA (president) at my old job from 06-09. His license is currently inactive cus he retired (but it expires next year), but it was active when I worked there. Could this work as experience if I somehow contacted him? I looked this all up yesterday at work because there is no CPA at my current job which just completely sucks. I was desperate for a job and had to take what I could. Also, saw that CA requires 500 hours attest? Since when? I thought that was done with? Was I looking at something old? I THOUGHT I KNEW EVERYTHING I HAD TO DO!

500 attest hours is optional. You can get what is called a general CPA license without those hours.

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

@tough_kitty that's exactly what I thought. Thank you for re-assuring me! I literally just wanted to quit everything when I read that.
