Hello! So I am taking my accounting classes right now in California (have a year to finish), but I want to take/pass the CPA exam as soon as possible, so I am thinking about applying to sit for Maine State CPA exam. Maine state does not require any academic credits to sit for the exam. The test is uniform so the materials will be the same, but I was wondering if I can easily switch to California license after finishing classes and working in Cali.

Has anybody done this, or have any advice for me? Thank you so much!

I believe in CA your out of state license will only be recognized if you also meet all the CA licensure requirements. If you do not have a CA license, you cannot use the CPA designation or represent yourself as a CPA in CA.

Thank you CalCPASoon! I am taking classes to fulfill the CA requirements right now, but that will take a whole year or more. So I want to start taking the exams early by applying to sit for Maine exams, and by the time I complete them, I will be finishing/finished with my classes too. Then I plan to contact the CA Board of Accountancy and apply for the CA CPA license, after working. I was wondering if anyone else has done something similar to this… I can apply to sit for Maine state tests from California, right?
