CA licensure requirements. Path I vs Path II

Can someone clarify a couple of questions:

What is the difference in the license obtained in Pathway 1 vs Pathway 2? My understanding is that if you go Pathway 2 only do one year of work experience and get the additional 150 units then it is more nationally accepted and you can become licensed in other states?

Also, regarding the New License requirements as on Jan 1, 2014 where Pathway One will be eliminated, do you have to meet ALL (Pass exams, submit work experience AND education requiremets) by that date to be safe?

I’m pretty sure I have the 24 units of accounting and 24 of business covered though my undergrad. I be so sad if I have to go back 20 additional units in accounting and 10 in ethics….

Any insight? CBA seems to word everything as confusing as possible.

Here is a link to the Initial Licensing Handbook:

I know this isn't the answer you are looking for, but your best bet is to call the state board and have them explain it to you. It would be horrible to go off of some advice on a public forum, that may or may not be entirely correct.

BUT, with that said, I am going through CA Pathway 2. I plan to practice in KS, but I didn't qualify to sit in KS due to additional statistics credits needed. I qualified for CA P2, and double checked with KS they would accept a CA certificate and license me in KS. They accept P2 but not P1, so I am really happy that I checked.

I think the best route is to understand what your final destination is, and work backwards by contacting the state directly.

Why exactly would one intentionally leave CA for KS? 🙂

Someone told me that the last time anyone left CA for the midwest was when the Rams went to STL 🙂 I'm from KC, lived in CA for a few “fun” years, and came back “home” to settle down. (Read: raise my daughter near my family, lol)

I was loving your K-State shirt in one of your motivational videos. Although I'm an MU fan. It just made you seem like a normal guy, not the Sensei we all know you as.

Haha, how ironic. My family left the border of Colorado/Kansas for California. I am the only one of my family to be born a CA native.

For now I don't plan on practicing in another state. You never know though, the way California is turning more and more into a financial crisis everyday….

Hello fellow Californian. You are correct as of now the pathway 2 is more recoginzed in other states(so my professors said). I currently could be licensed under both pathways(IF I pass my exams) but I will choose to do path 2 if licensed by 12/31/13. Also, there are other courses that fufill the ethics portion until 2017. Have you seen this handout?

I believe my credits works for the new requirements also, if it comes to that…. I have called CBA and they wont look at my transcripts until I have a license app on file with them. I have gone over my transcripts with the requirements, as I am sure you have, and they match up. My undergrad program had us take course from every other business core program so I have a lot of those units.

    Hope this helps?!

I guess the part I am confused about is the new requirement of 20 ADDITIONAL accounting credits. So basically, if the minimum for my degree was 24 and I passed the exams in 2014, I would have to go back to school to get 20 more credits?

According to the green section only minimum 6 units has to be accounting…. do you not have units in the other areas listed?

Also, just re-read your post “Also, regarding the New License requirements as on Jan 1, 2014 where Pathway One will be eliminated, do you have to meet ALL (Pass exams, submit work experience AND education requiremets) by that date to be safe?” You have to have your application in to the board and no missing parts(basically just waiting on them to give you the license) by 12/31/13, then you will be grandfathered in.

Now I'm really confused…Is the 24 Acctg and 24 Business Semester Credits until end of Dec 2013 and then in Jan 2014 the 20 Accounting and 10 Ethics apply “INSTEAD” OF THE 24/24 semester credits….Is it 24/24 is now 20/10?

I presently have 200 quarter units (BA) in Psychobiology and then about another 80 quarter units in Accounting (44 of them) and the rest Business-related from Extension program. I have plenty of units but if you get into particulars such as Philosophy/Theology/Religion…I've taken the breath of Social Science (15 quarter units) and Humanity (15 quarter units) classes to fill BA requirements but not exactly what is stated in the link above.

My interpretaion is its adding the 20/10 on top of 24/24.
