CA CPA Requirements: Pathway 1 Question

If I select pathway one as my option of becoming a CPA, does the two years of general accounting experience supervised by a CPA have to be completed before 12/31/2013?

I plan on completing the exams by the end of this year, and I am wondering if completing the exams before the 12/31/2013 deadline allows me to still use the pathway 1 option.

    Thanks for your help!

also, does the 2 years of experience need to be consecutive 2 years?

I would contact the board to get these specific answers.

They are really good at helping candidates understand the rules.

Also, be careful when choosing your pathway. If you are not planning on practicing in CA, you may want to consider pathway 2.

I have sent an email to the board about a week ago, asking these same questions and I haven't received a response.

And when I tried calling, the phone kept ringing for a couple of minutes and nobody ever picked up. So I decided to just take the four units I need to meet the 150 unit requirement of pathway two.

@chris – You know the CBA has a website, right?

@minimorty: Yea I am aware of the CBA website. They must have just recently updated the pathway requirements page, because the information on the bottom about the experience wasn't there before.

it's still a bit ambiguous to me..

    1) i will have 150 units

    2) i will have 1 year experience under a CPA

if i meet both of the above, do i still have to pass the CPA exam by jan 1, 2014 to be “grandfathered” in by the current pathway 2 option?

2 years seem like a lot to pass the cpa exam, but i know with work and busy season + blackout months + 18-month window, 2 years may be too short for me..

After reading the website this is my take…

@Chris seems like you need to have it all completed by Dec 31, 2013. pass exams, 2 years of exp under cpa, ethichs etc. If you have no acctg exp under a cpa, and have not started working for one as of Jan 1, 2012, pathway 1 is not an option for you anymore, because it will be impossible for you to get 2 years of exp before the 2014 change.

@cannot if you have 150 already no clock is ticking…the clock is only ticking for those with 120 credit hours, who haven't passed yet or haven't fulfilled the work exp. Pathway 2 will be the standard after 2013, no need to be grandfathered.
