    Hello

I am so glad that I found this board and helpful threads. Brief my situation is as following:

    1. Graduated business school in Ohio

    2. Passed CPA in VT State in June, 2012.

    3. Started work in KPMG and now in EY in Seoul, South Korea

    4. Transferred my CPA credits to NY

    5. filed all application 8 weeks ago.

Issue 1 – I am working in Seoul, South Korea but my partner who signed for my experience form is active member of CA.

Should I get sign from Korea CPA since I am working in South Korea? Or should I find someone who is active CPA member of NY?

or should I re-transfer to any other state?

Issue 2 – I am not U.S citizen and I am currently out of States. In the form1, they are asking I am U.S citizen or any immigrant status. I do not belong to any categories in the form. Is this going to be a matter?

    Thank you for any tips

Chuck – That's a lot of places! I'll try to answer based on experiences of my peers.

Form 4B – There have been people experiencing issues with non-NY CPA's signing off on your experience. If you wish to be licenced in NYS, it would be best to have a NYS registered and active CPA sign off on your experience. Since the state is slow, it would be better to not risk and delay your license.

As for transferring to another state, that is entirely up to you. Some states have different requirements. I can only comment on NY. If you can get a NY Active Regsitered CPA to sign off your 4B, you should be good on that part.

As for your immigration status, are you a legal permanent resident alien of the US? Meaning, if you have a green card for the US, check the “An alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States.” box. Since you are in Seoul currently, I dont think you would still have a work visa for the US active. I can't really comment on what would you be able to do. Your best bet is to call the state board. Avoid emails because they are slow to respond.

518-474-3817 extension 160. Open from 8:30 AM to 4 PM Eastern Time.

    Good luck!

I called NYS two months ago because I sat for GA and want to transfer my exam scores (when I pass my last one) to NY. The guy specifically told me that if I want to transfer my exam scores, my experience should be signed off by a CPA licensed in NY. I am glad I called because the last time I checked the NYS website didn't say that. If I were you, give them a call and tell them your situation.

@nyczducky, jft – Thank you for the comments!

Issue 1 – Only NY has this signing off issue? Why dont they specify in the application that I should get signed by NY CPA? My peer who applied for WA did not have this type of issue. He is signed by same partner who has CA license and got license of WA. Currently I dont know who is NY Active Regsitered CPA in my firm. Since I'm in South Korea, I may not be able to find right person. I will call NYS today and hope they have some flexibility on this complicated situation.

If they really want to get signed experience by NY active member, I guess I am not able to get NY license. Then I have to find another states and it will take more time and money…:(

Issue 2 – I dont know either green card or business visa. Hope this doesnt affect in outcome.
