    Hi Everyone,

I’m trying to figure out which courses would qualify me for “33 hours in accounting” rule to get a license. I emailed NASBA, but not sure how quickly they would reply, but perhaps if anyone could share some helpful information or advise a list of courses, I would greatly appreciate. Here is the list of courses that I have taken.

    Federal Taxation (TAX-650)
    Auditing (ACC-640)
    Financial Econometrics (FIN-690)
    Seminar in Finance (FIN-700)
    Money and Capital Markets (FIN-620)
    Multinational Corp. Finance (INT-620)
    Fiscal & Monetary Policies (ECO-610)
Option Analysis & Fin. Deriv (FIN-670)
    Short-Term Financial Management (FIN-610)
Investment Analysis & Portfolio Management (FIN-640)
    Managerial Economics (ECO-500)
    Capital Budgeting & Financing (FIN-630)
    Financial Management (FIN-500)
    Quantitative Analysis (QSO-510)
    Managerial Accounting (ACC-500)
    Economics for Business (MBA-502)
Math and Stat for Business (MBA 501)
Financial Reporting & Analysis (MBA 503)

    Thank you in advance!

Of this list I'm pretty sure only your TAX-650, ACC-640, and ACC-500 would count towards the “33 hours in accounting” rule

The 33 hours is pretty much a bachelor's degree in accounting. You are better off going back to undergrad to finish the hours. In Florida, you would need 150 hours to be licensed with 36 being upper division accounting courses.

    AUD - 10/21/16 (75----07/2010 expired)
    FAR - 10/28/16
    BEC - 11/2016
    REG - 01/2017

Yep, I had most of the same courses from my finance undergrad and MBA but I went back for a second undergraduate major in accounting to meet the education requirements. Your Fed Tax and Auditing may qualify but none of the rest.

    FAR 7/25/15 76!
    AUD 10/30/15 93
    BEC 2/27/16 82
    REG 5/23/16 88!
Ninja Book and MCQ and the forum - all the way!!!
and a little thing i like to call, time and effort!

I dont get why would I go to undergrad (4 years) if I already completed it and the courses I'm mentioning they are all grad from my MS in Finance. Since I qualified for a “120 sit rule” based on the Tax, Auditing, Managerial Accounting and Financial Reporting, then I assume these courses would be accepted. And most of the FIN courses in one way or other cover the accounting related material, and was actually on my FAR exam. I'm almost done with CPA exams and now have to go back to taking courses, unbelievable..

Depends on your state, but most will only accept ACC course codes as accounting classes.
I have heard crazy stories of a BUS class titled Accounting for Business, that would not be accepted towards the accounting credits.
You don't need a new undergrad degree, just more credits (if those courses are not accepted).
People obtain credits through their local community colleges, or through online classes at out of state schools, but your state will have its own rules for what it can accept. (I personally wish I knew about the community college and online schools when I needed 30 additional credits.)

I didn’t do a second complete undergraduate degree just 27 hours to complete the accounting major at my alma mater. I had undergraduate principles and intermediate accounting credits from my first degree but chose to repeat them because the standards had changed since I graduated. I also had a graduate level cost accounting class that counted toward my 30 required accounting credits. I had the 150 hours before I went back for the 30 hours in accounting. I could have done a second masters but this way was cheaper.
Sounds like you are in one of the states that require only 12 hours in accounting to sit for exams. Getting the license has different requirements. Finance and economics are not accounting. The CPA is all about the accounting. Your other courses will help you with BEC. Talk to your state board.
