First, thanks for welcoming me to this board. I have spent a lot of time trying to update resumes, etc for getting ready for upcoming career fairs. I would normally take this to my school to help me sort out, but I am out of the country for a while on work and I always find forums much more helpful.

I am really not understanding this 150 hours, 24 semester, yada yada requirements. I keep looking at the tip sheet, found here: https://blogs.calcpa.org/buzz/files/2012/05/150_Hour_Tip_Sheet.pdf

I think I’ll be fine with the 150 semester hours, but don’t really understand the 24,24,20, 10 unit breakdown that is going to apply as of January 1st, 2014. I started at UC Riverside, transferred to UCSB during undergrad, and am now doing a MAc program for Master’s. Some of my courses probably have overlap though. Ah just confusing a bit. I expect to graduate from my MAc program end of 2014.

    Undergraduate:

ECON 2 Intro to Macroeconomics (UC Riverside)

ECON 102A Microeconomic theory (UC Riverside)

ECON 103A Macroeconomic theory (UC Riverside)

    ECON 100B Microeconomic theory

    ECON 118 Accounting Data Analysis

    ECON 134A Financial Management

    ECON 136A Intermediate Accounting

    ECON 180 International Trade

    ECON 191AU Auction Theory

    ECON 191N Art of Negotiation

    Undergrad credits total (quarter) 183

    converted to:

    Undergrad credits total (semester)122

    Masters:

ACCTG 50 Introduction to Accounting Standards and Accounting

    ACCTG 200A Intermediate Accounting I

    ACCTG 200B Intermediate Accounting II

    ACCTG 310 Auditing

ACCTG 351A Communication and Analysis of Financial Information

ACCTG 300 Accounting Research and Communication

ACTG 351B Business Law, Professional Responsibility, and Ethics for Accountants

ACTG 351C Economics, Finance, and International Business for Accountants

    Semester credits 24

Just trying to look for some clarification on where I stand with my semester hours, and requirements. I don’t need anything definite, just trying to see how close I am. I have about 21 more units to go (5 classes + 6 unit internship) in my MAc.

    Thanks

I think the best way to find out for sure is when you apply to the CA CPA board and have your transcripts sent in. They will evaluate your transcripts and they will then tell you if you have met the 150 hours requirement or not.

    FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !

Sorry, that tip sheet makes no sense to me. I will say this, though…I don't know what the rules are in CA regarding how soon you can apply to sit for the exams (in Wisconsin, you can apply during your last semester), but if you can't apply until your last semester or until after you graduate, I would NOT wait to find out until you apply. If it turns out you haven't met the requirements, you'll have wasted the application fee and you'd have to take some additional classes, which would suck. Although you're out of the country, are you able to contact your state board?

If you apply before 12/31 you don't need the 150 units. You will need them if you don't pass the exam by 12/31 though, but that would be just be before you can get licensed. I agree it is confusing I googled found some power point that San Jose State created that seemed more clear.

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.
