Urgent Prometric Question – Time Slots

Hello all. I am frantically trying to schedule two sections for July, and need to ask a quick question as it seems impossible to get anyone on the phone at Prometric.

When looking at scheduling an exam appointment, it will say something like “8:00 am – 12:30 pm”. Does this mean that if I sign up for this slot that I am required to sit for the section during that exact time frame, or is that merely the time frame in which I can select to start my exam further along in the scheduling process? Any quick response would be extremely appreciated. Thank you guys!

If you pick that slot your exam starts at 8 am and you are not allowed to test past 12:30pm but may leave earlier if you are finished. If you are not there at 8am (actually be there by 7:30) you will be considered to have forfeited your time and your NTS.

Thank you mla1169! I appreciate it! Cannot believe there is not more flexibility…

Why would (or should) there be more flexibility? Prometric administers thousands of tests daily. They have a few seats reserved for CPA exam on each date during specific time frames and the rest of that day they reserve time for GMAT, contractor exams, real estate exams, etc. If nobody signs up for the real estate exam on that date it still doesn't avail more time for CPA takers

Remember until about a dozen years ago there were only a handful of days a year that you could sit for the exam. The Bar exam is still that way.

    Exactly that time.

But, you have to show up at least 30 minutes early for documentation, biometrics, instructions, body frisking, etc.

I have never been late but I heard that when you come late, the systems will shut for you, which means forfeiture to sit that day.

    Good luck.

They need to be able to get as many people in to test as possible, so they have to be specific.

You could try looking at different days– my center had 8a start on some days and 9a start on some days for the same test.

I'm a huge fan of afternoon exams. One reason is flexibility. I've taken a 12:30 exam and each time I get thee around 11 and they offer me to start early, which is perfect for me. I know people prefer morning exams but to me….sleep in….flexibility. ..no lines and no rushing. I love my afternoon exams…

You can always get there earlier, and if there are seats available, they will let you start early. CPA exam is a very serious thing, and you should take it seriously and be there early, not just on time. IIRC, when interviews are given by Big 4 or most employers, they tell you when the interview is going to be, not any time between 8 and 12.

I can't imagine taking a morning exam. Afternoon, all the way! I took a few 8am finals in college and my brain only woke up halfway through the exams. (I'm not a morning person at all)

You never know. I love my testing center. On one of my exams they called me in the morning and said it was a slow day and I could show up at any time before my appointment and start my exam. I've never had to wait until my actual time. I am always early and always get to go directly in.

I am not a morning person either. However, during the times I took the tests on the afternoon, I failed in both of them (2x). Of the 3x I took the tests on the mornings, all 8:00am, I passed 2 of them, considering I went to bed the night before the test past 12MN.

At my prometric, dates and times open up all the time. At first, the only time availble on the date that I wanted was 8-12pm. Ew, never… I waited 3 days and 1-6 opened up. Snatched that.

Last exam, the dates I wanted weren't available, waited a week and they all became available.

But yes, the time is your sitting time, not a range. I always go in whenever I want beforehand, like 12pm sit time, I will go between 11am and 11:45am and always get in. This is for my Prometric, can't say anything about others.

I also love afternoon sessions as well but NorCal they are super hard to get.. So have to grab them as soon as it opens.

If my time was 12.30 I get there by 12.00pm and well after all the frisking and waiting I end up starting my exams at 12.45. My prometric has always been busy except for the last exam when I took FAR.

It was very empty and I loved that as more peaceful. After I was done with my exam I told the prometric guy. Good bye and I hope I never have to see you again.

He smiled and said I hope so too.
