Ok, ninjas, I’m freaking out a little bit.

A lady in my office recently passed her last Enrolled Agent exam. She and my boss are getting paperwork together to send in for her license and are worried because they’ve misplaced one of the sealed certificates you get from the testing center after you finish testing.

I was under the impression those forms were just proof that you’d been to the center in the event that NASBA didn’t receive your scores, and quite honestly have no idea where the form is from my AUD exam back in January. I’m sure I didn’t throw it away, but I didn’t think I needed to protect them with my life!!!! Will I need these to send in for my license once all tests are passed?

The EA exam gives the grade at the testing center, so your coworker's sealed paper is proof of her grade as well as that she was there. So, I would anticipate that's why they want her paper, since they can send it as proof that she passed. I'm in a non-NASBA state so everything is different here, but I haven't seen anything saying we have to keep those papers, and I'd be highly surprised if we had to. The other Prometric exams I've taken that do grade immediately don't require the paper – you'd only need that if there was a discrepancy between the grade reported by Prometric and the grade on your sheet (or if they lost your grade altogether). So, I can't imagine that you'd have to have it for an exam that wasn't graded immediately – it seems like any paperwork from NASBA or your state board stating that you passed the exam would be far more valuable than a paper saying you attended!

I recently did a lot of shredding and those sealed certificates were part of the purge. Before I did so though, I read it in detail and it specifically said to hold on to it until you receive your test score as proof of attendance. As long as you've received your score, it should be okay that you don't have it anymore but until then, I'd make sure to keep it.

Whew. Thanks guys. I was certain I had read through it at one point or another and determined it wasn't that important, but they were frantic in the office because they couldn't find one for the EA candidate (it turned up, btw). Good to know!
