Taking exam in state with faster application processing

    Hello,

I just finished Spring quarter last week and am waiting for grades to get posted before I send my application to the California State Board. They’re saying that the processing time is currently 6 weeks, and I’ve heard that they can take longer at times. This really worries me, as I am planning to take REG in the middle of August and BEC by the end of August.

Is there any problems with taking different sections of the exam in different states? As a back up plan, I think I’m going to apply to sit for the exam in multiple states in case California takes too long to process my application. Any thoughts?

    Hey there,

I'm a CA candidate as well, but went to school in Massachusetts. I applied to take the exam in CA after I graduated last December and if I remember correctly from the time my transcripts and check arrived at the CBA to when I received my ATT took exactly 4 weeks (but it was an off season).

You can apply for the exam in another state if you meet their requirements, but take all your exams in CA if you wanted to. There is no need to physically take the exam in the state you applied (e.g. NV candidate can take exams in CA). You can definitely transfer your scores later down the road but heard it can be a pain.

I've never heard of someone applying in multiple states at the same time. Doing so would be quite expensive. Additionally there is no guarantee that the other state will process your application any faster (keep that in mind).

Is there a reason why you are in a rush to take the exam (starting work, etc.)?

To be honest, if I were you I would wait and avoid the hassle in the future.

    BEC - 85 5/15
    REG - 83 7/15
    AUD - 89 8/15

    Hi there,

Thanks for the response. I didn't know about your 2nd paragraph, so I can apply in different states but still take the exam in California? If true, then that sounds like a great plan. Although transferring scores might be a pain, I'd still prefer that over not being able to take the exams as planned.

I'm in my mid-twenties so the classes I just finished were taken at at a University Extension school, not as an undergraduate student. I'm pursuing a career in accounting but I would like to pass the exams first in order to make myself a more competitive job candidate, so I would like to finish all 4 sections ASAP.

Sometimes you can transfer scores from one state to another, sometimes you can't. If you find a state that might process your application faster make, sure to verify with the CBA (not a message board) that they will accept your scores.

Seems like it'd be more trouble than it'd be worth, if you are seeking a license in CA.

I understand it might be a hassle but it's mostly to avoid the worst-case scenario of not being able to take any of the exams in August as I am planning for
