Paid for all 4 CPA Exams 6 months ago – still haven't taken one

Is there any way to re-apply to the State Board of California to save my Exam fees? When I first signed up I thought I’d have the exams all done in 4-6 months, but now I’m barely going to be able to complete 1 or 2 in eight months. Plus December is a dead month. If I’d known this I could have at least waited 2-3 more months to sign up with the NASBA, and I additionally paid for all 4 tests at once because of the reapply and $50 disincentive. So am I out $400+?

Yes, if you don't sit you are out the money. Maybe under extinuating circumstances they would grant you an extension? I lost my $400 way back when I first took the exam. I paid for all 4 at once. This time I decide to do 2 at a time. I did FAR and BEC, got a 72 on FAR and cancelled BEC. Now I'm in an unmotivated crazy at work and home funk. UGH!

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

Yep, like StephAV said, you lose it…except for rarely in extenuating circumstances, but they have to be VERY extenuating. Like, you were in the hospital for 3 months, then your dad died, then your spouse was in the hospital for months…that sort of thing. 😛 Maybe not quite that extreme, but awfully close. Basically, unless you have a one in 1,000 story, you're screwed.

Sounds like you didn't do enough research before hand.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

I'm not sure about California (you would have to check with them and see if this works) but in Kentucky they grant an automatic extension if you just ask. That will gain you one testing period. The Kentucky board would also let you swap test for test… meaning you could exchange FAR and AUD (fee is the same), and BEC and REG (fee is the same).

So in theory if you took two of the tests…

Say AUD, BEC (and did not pass one you could swap the test you did not pass for the other) this would allow you to stay on topic (at least).

    AUD - 75 - 07/06/2012
    FAR - 72, 74, 82 - 05/30/2013
    BEC - 84 - 01/16/2013
    REG - 60ish, 84 - 08/16/2013

    CISA - Passed

I think NASBA would act like Condescending Wonka in this instance.
