Four months after passing the CPA and having the Office of the Professions up in Albany bless everything, I called to learn that NASBA never sent my exam scores after all. Going out Fedex 2nd day tomorrow. Ooops! I wish I could not pay my NASBA fees (Oops!).

Albany originally gave me a December ETA for a June pass date. I hope this doesn’t push things back even more. Sigh. Just paperwork at this point, I guess. So long as the dragon’s been slayed it’s all good.

I read somewhere that if you are grandfathered in under the “no need to do your Masters to sit” and get a license from that state, and move to a state which does not have this exemption… then you have to actually get a Masters degree to have the license transfer? Please tell me this is just a cruel joke turned urban myth.

I know not all states have reciprocity if that's what you're asking. Some will accept your license and some will require you to meet additional criteria first. I don't think many states (if any) require a masters. Most are just 150 credits. In MA the masters is only required for a non reporting license.

Your application is currently ON HOLD pending receipt of a clarifying statement from your CPA supervisor. I noted the CPA supervisor is licensed but UNREGISTERED in NY, however, the experience attested to was NJ. Please have the CPA supervisor submit a statement, via email, to indicate his principal place of business. Once received, this information will be reviewed and evaluated to determine if the experience is acceptable.

Out of all of the problems and long waits with getting a license on this forum, most of them seem to be in NY. I am in NY and not looking forward to going through this when I pass. This is added to my reasons why I hate this state.

Well, it seems their issue is with the discrepancy between NY/NJ. Anyone that lives here, knows there is no boundary between NY, NJ and CT as it is one large lump of humanity. However, legal boundaries and jurisdictions exist for a reason. I'm not clear as to whether the supervising CPA has to be active and registered, as opposed to simply being licensed.

If so, this would indicate that if your supervisor let his paperwork lapse at any point during your experience, you'd be SOL for that claimed year. It's been a long journey. They ask so much of you. The exam requires that you give up so much and perform at the highest level possible, and then you have to go through this ambiguous unguided bureaucratic process.

MLA: I think your answer confirmed my suspicion. Whether we call it full blown “masters” or going back to school for 25 credits, the obstacle when moving is still there.

I got “grandfathered in” as well. I don't ever see myself moving out of this “beloved” (and I say it sarcastically) state anyway, so I should be good.

I'm also grandfathered in under the old rules. I sent in my paperwork a little over a month ago. I'm not so patiently waiting for my license. I received my final score on Aug 21 and still haven't received my congratulatory letter.

A- pass
F- pass
R- pass
B - August 2014 - pass - YAY!!!!

It's not that easy. The Albany coordinator called me personally after I passed (we had some history) she said that for a June submission I can expect my license sometime in December. I believe at time they were expecting an 18 week turnaround time.
