I am scheduled to take FAR on 1/6. My NTS expires on that date. I’m going to get a new NTS and sit at the end of February.

Do I pay the $35 to cancel my upcoming appointment or do I just not show up? If I don’t show up, will I still be able to sit this window?

    AUD - 98, 92, 88 - ExamMatrix
    FAR - 80, 81 - ExamMatrix
    REG - 76 - ExamMatrix
    BEC - 71, 71, 80 - ExamMatrix

Since you are going to lose the NTS fee anyway why not sit for it and just see what happens?

Because I haven't studied. If I get a new NTS, I have 8 weeks to study and can take the test at the end of February.

    FAR - 80, 81 - ExamMatrix
    REG - 76 - ExamMatrix

I am not sure how that works really, you can only sit for each section once per each window. I would see if the system even allows you to buy a new NTS for FAR, normally when I have an outstanding NTS for a section it won't let me even slect that section as an option to buy a new NTS. I am not sure about that one.

Does your NTS expiration date indicate the last day you can try to schedule your exam or the last day you can actually sit for an exam?

If you can't sit after the NTS expiration date, then I would just forfeit those fees if you are flat out not prepared. At least that way you can give FAR a real shot in the same window in February, otherwise you'll have to wait until April.

Btw, how far are you on FAR? You still have 10 days. I went through about 5 lessons and did final review in that time, but I was in school and could commit 5+ hrs per day. If you can even remotely do it, bust your butt and take it on 1/6. If you don't think you could, then just forfeit and take it at the end of Feb rather than risk having to wait until April. My opinion anyway. Good luck!

    BEC 86 (08/30/11)
    FAR 84 (10/13/11)
    REG 88 (11/08/11)
    AUD 86 (11/29/11)

Now that I think about this, what probably has to happen is your first NTS has to expire first and then you can get your next one. If that is the way it works I would think you would want to cancel the first appointment so it doesn't show you had one scheduled.
