NTS – name change – someone else can sit for you?

    I got married and changed my last Name. Now I have applied for new NTS and could change my last name online to get my new NTS. Also I had the possibility to change my first name.

    My first name was misspelled on my older NTS and IDs as well (only the last letter was wrong).

    So I changed my first name and last name accordingly.

    I was wondering that this is so easy!

    So everyone could change first and last names and somenone else could sit for the exam? They didn’t even ask for a marriage certificate or anything!

    I changed my name with my state board when I reapplied. I think when I called they said I'd need the marriage license, but then I was able to just change it online and it is updated on all of my records online and my NTS came in my new name… Hmm…

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
    BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!

    Wow! This is really scary….

    Or do you think they check the fingerprints they take at Prometrics and if they match?

    Everytime I give my fingerprints there appears an error message and I have to do it several times … over and over again. But I think Prometrics is just taking the fingerprints but not matching them.

    So there could really sit another person for the different parts?!

    Nah, fingerprints & pictures requirements wouldn't probably give much chance to a cheating candidate. Think about those pictures submitted on app to board, and those repeatedly taken by the Prometrics (for the board and their own record) for EACH section. Thus, in addition to fingerprints, picture measures should make it tough. And, don't forget that identification is also compared to your NTS carefully.

    I'm sure that these type of scenarios as old as time and have been considered by NASBA, AICPA and BoAcc :))

    Error message while fingerprinting is due to pressing too hard, smudging, non-read, etc

    Actually I was just worried that the Board could say Person A (my old name) passed 2 exams and Person B (my new last name and correct first name) passed the other 2 and that they won't acknowledge

    that A and B is the same person.

    So in that case I can just hope that Prometrics keeps my fingerprints and photographs … actually I don't wanna rely on them… but there is nothing else to do for me.

    Do you really think the board is checking and matching each fingerprint and picture?

    @Cessna,

    Your old & new names are tied together via social security number. Your social security number stays the same no matter what is your name person A or person B.

    Current driver's license and newly reissued social security card with the same exact number, are bearing your new name and should serve as proof of your identity in addition to fingerprints and marriage license official records.

    I changed my last name after I got married before my last exam. In the testing center when they scan your finger, both the old and new ID scanned images pull up on the screen.

    @UCFCPA thanks for this info!

    The thing is that my old ID is my foreign driverslicense, so there is no connection to my US-Social. This is also the one that has the wrong first name and my old last name on it. This is why I am concerned.

    Now I have the US drivers license with my correct first and new last name.

    Pretty sure there's some kind of checks and balance process for candidates who passed all 4 exams.

    FAR: 50, 76!
    REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

    So you won't be concerned in my case since they have my fingerprints and photos?
