My Soon-To-Expire NTS

My NTS expires on 11/08/2013 and I was supposed to take FAR test today (supposed 2nd attempt). I backed out last week because I was only on F2 due to so many issues and problems I am going through at home and at work. I was not able to follow my study plans as scheduled after receiving my ever first CPA pass last September 10th. I wish I didn’t submit my NTS application for FAR while still struggling for my AUD last May. I knew I would not be able to pass FAR by luck. I studied it for 2 months the first time (though without good final review; without rereading my notes; working MCQs/progress tests/flashcards/practice final tests).

I am glad I talked to Lilla last weekend (10/27/13). I asked her what I should do. She suggested me to try to request the state board just as she has seen others from A71 who have requested for extension. She pointed out that I should have a justifiable reason without having to lie. Oh my gosh, something sparkled in my mind that I knew I had a valid reason to ask the board. That same day (Sunday) I drafted my request and emailed the board’s exam coordinator. The following Monday, I received a reply telling me that before they could make the request for an extension, first I would need to cancel the exam I had already scheduled with Prometric. Immediately, I called the state board on the phone to clarify the requirement.

I’ve realized our state board office here in KY is really great, extremely considerate. I was only requesting for 30-day extension but they said they could extend it up until the next testing window, which was awesome! Thus, I canceled my schedule for 11/04/2013 for $35 cancellation fee, which I thought it was better than forfeiting the entire NTS.

I never heard from the state board since then. But I kept checking Prometric to see if my NTS is still valid. It would still show validity on 11/7 until I tried it one more time today. And you know what? The screen looked brighter (and bolder)when December, January and February months were showing open dates for scheduling.

I am sharing this on here at A71 to encourage everyone not to let your NTS be forfeited for nothing. Try to ask if you have valid reasons to plead if you’re unable/incapable to sit.

So now that I’ve been given a chance of more days to study, I don’t want to be tempted to keep pushing it back. I know I MUST stick to my study plans. I can just take it to the next testing window. But no! I cannot anymore prolong the agony of this CPA journey. I should study really hard and sit not later than 12/6 for FAR even if the board has extended it through the next testing window.

Good info to know. I tried e-mailing my state board office this morning after reading your post. I'm in a time constraint since mine expires on Nov 7th, I have it scheduled and am cramming as if the exam is going to happen.

@carlin07marlin, how did it go? Did your state board office reply to your email fast enough? Your schedule is tomorrow. Rescheduling/canceling fee is going to be over $35 for you then.

I hope things work out good for you too.
