I just received email from IL board of examiners, it said that i am missing one credit to sit for CPA exam. Does anyone know what should i do right now? Thank you!

Call them and argue your case (see if they'll accept another class). When I got my first letter they said I was short 12 credits. When I called to find out how that was possible it turned out my Colorado rep at NASBA was new and didn't know how to properly read a transcript. By the time her and I got off the phone I had 6 credits more than what I needed to sit.

Don't just take it as is.

I've had friends who went to the head of their uni's accounting board, pulled some strings, and the head signed a letter and sent it to the state board of accountancy. Basically, you needed some sort of extra curricular, accounting internship, or some senior thesis you wrote that could be argued as a “credit”. Of course, it all depends on the board (I emailed the state board and asked if I could do that, and they said as long as they get that letter from the head of the accounting department).

In the end, I did not manage to get the credit because what I needed was an accounting credit not a general 150 credit. I wrote a senior thesis which the accounting head said he would sign it as a regular credit towards 150, but not accounting credit (which was what I needed).

Anyway, try anything you can think of basically 😀

I took 1 unit Alternative Medicine class from University of Phoenix. I was able to sit, but would need it to get licensed. That course is offered every 2 weeks and lasts 2 weeks and the grades are available within about a week. This was the fastest way to earn 1 unit that I could find. It wasn't cheap though…

I am an Indiana candidate who was also short 1 credit.. I applied for an NTS, wondered why it had been weeks before I received it, called my NASBA rep in Tennessee who told me I was short. (Well, thanks a lot for telling me, geesh!)

She said she would issue my NTS if I showed her proof of enrollment for 1 credit. There is a community college in the Indianapolis area that I could get the credit at. I ended up getting 3 credits cause it was an online interior design class, something I am actually interested in. After I sent her the enrollment stuff, she issued the NTS. I had to send her the grade when I finished the course…

Here's the thing about community college, I stopped doing all the work after about 1/4 of the way into the semester and still pulled a B-.. granted the work I did do was like A work.. unfortunately many people start out at this community college and then transfer to the nearby Business school and wonder why they aren't prepared. It hard to do a cost-benefit analysis since the community college is so much cheaper but if you're not prepared, you might drop out of real college and waste a ton of money.

Not sure where you're located but if you have the time to wait around, Cerritos College in California offers a quickbooks class (both online and on campus) that's 1.5 semester units. It's 8 weeks long but the workload is very minimal. Just basics of quickbooks. The only thing is, I dont know if there's any situation where they require you to come on campus (meeting with counselor for prereqs, etc.) but if you don't have to, it'd be a real cheap and easy way to get those units out of the way.

I took a 3 credit hour CPA Review course that was a fast-track course (we met for 4 weekends). Got my Wiley books and some decent info and work paid for it all since it was a legit college class.

Edit: The class itself was just garbage though; they tried to cover “what would be on the CPA Exam” in 8 class sessions over probably 40 hours total. All we did was pretty much read the bolded headings of each section and she'd say something like “ok, you've gotta know Leases for sure, highlight that” and then move right along!

Thank you all the suggestions. i recalculated all my credit hours, and i found out they miss one credit hour in my community college transcript. so i called them, the problem is fixed. Thank you you guys!

Take a 1 credit online class.

yeah, call them then ask for an remedies. However, it might be shorter to take a one credit class. Plus those classes are kind of fun. I did mine in leadership.
